Trinity's Cusenbary, Southwestern's Pool Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior middle blocker Erin Cusenbary of Trinity University and junior outside hitter Macey Pool of Southwestern University were named Players of the Week for their performance in week 9 of the SCAC Volleyball season.

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 20th – October 26th

ERIN CUSENBARY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th.

Cusenbary led the 22nd-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 4-0 record at the SCAC Cross-Divisional over the weekend, sweeping all four matches to secure the top seed at the SCAC Championship Tournament. 

Cusenbary hammered out 41 kills (4.10/set) over the four matches, compiling an outstanding .515 hitting percentage. She committed just 6 errors in 68 total attacks, as well as recording 10 blocks (1.00/set). In the win over Dallas that finished the first day of action, Cusenbary led Trinity with a blistering .640 hitting percentage, racking up 17 kills and just one hitting error (25 attempts). She also hit .316 (8-2-19) in the 3-0 win against eighth-ranked Colorado College, then finished with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the finale against Austin College. She had three blocks in both of Sunday's matches.

On Saturday, Cusenbary became the third player in school history to reach 500 blocks in a career, needing 12 more to move into second place all-time at Trinity. She is also approaching 1,000 kills in her career.

For the season, Cusenbary leads Trinity with a .362 hitting percentage, nabbing 298 kills (second on the team) overall, and averaging 2.71 kills/set. She also leads the Tigers with 131 blocks this year, averaging 1.19 blocks/set. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman middle blocker Rebekah Bowden of Austin College had a strong weekend for Austin College, averaging 2.0 kills per set with a .308 hitting percentage and averaging a team-high 2.8 points per set. Senior middle blocker Kadidiatou Diawara of Centenary picked up 31 kills over the weekend including eight on Senior Night in a win over Dallas Christian while only committing seven errors in seven matches. Freshman setter Sarah Barker of Colorado College led the team with 137 assists over the weekend including 41 in a 3-0 win over Schreiner and 46 in the five set loss to Southwestern. Senior middle blocker Emily Caples of Dallas picked up 36 kills over the weekend including a 14 kill outing in the five set win over Texas Lutheran this past weekend. Junior right side hitter Abbie Robb of Southwestern had 52 kills in six games over the weekend including 14 kills each against Our Lady of the Lake and Colorado College. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Fording of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs with 50 kills over the weekend including double digit kills in three of the four matches, racking up her second and third double-doubles of her TLU career and twice recorded a career-high 20 digs. Schreiner did not nominate anyone.

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MACEY POOL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior outside hitter from Spring, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th.

Pool led the Pirates to a huge 4-0 weekend to lock of the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SCAC Volleyball Tournament and give a big boost to Southwestern's national postseason hopes.

Pool led Southwestern with 106 digs in the span of six games (5.05/set) including 68 over the conference weekend (4.86/set). Pool opened the weekend with 22 digs in a 3-0 win over St. Thomas. She followed that up with 16 digs in a 3-1 win over Our Lady of the Lake. 

During the Cross-Divisional play, Pool's biggest day game came against eighth-ranked Colorado College, where the junior had 25 digs in the five set victory to go with 15 kills. She also had an impressive 19 and 17 dig performance against Dallas and Austin College.

For the season, Pool is fourth in conference play with 133 kills and fifth in digs with 216. She is eighth in the SCAC with 3.93 digs per set.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Rachel Fusselman of Austin College had an outstanding weekend for Austin College, averaging 5.9 digs per set, including notching 30 digs in a win over Schreiner. Freshman Desiree Frey of Centenary finsihed with 33 digs on the weekend including a 14 dig performance against Jarvis Christian and a 12 dig performance against Schreiner. Sophomore outside hitter Abbe Holtze of Colorado College picked up 79 digs for the weekend including a 30 dig performance against Texas Lutheran and a 25 dig performance against Southwestern. She also led the team with 56 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Jessie Koster of Dallas had a huge weekend with 112 digs including 91 during the conference weekend. She had 43 digs in the five set victory over Texas Lutheran and 21 digs in the victory over Dallas Christian. Senior defensive specialist Megan Lee of Texas Lutheran capped off her home career at TLU with a career-best 52 digs in a 3-2 loss against Dallas, the fourth most digs in SCAC Volleyball history. Senior outside hitter Layne Hubbard of Trinity ed the team with 48 total digs (4.80/set) for the weekend, that saw the Tigers earn four 3-0 victories – including a sweep of eighth-ranked Colorado College on Sunday morning. Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
