TLU's Barrolle, Trinity's Boatman, Austin's Ross and Vaughn Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran running back Marquis Barrolle, Trinity defensive back Jai Boatman, and Austin College running back Madison Ross and defensive lineman Brett H. Vaughn all earned SCAC Player of the Week honors for week three of the SCAC football season.










SCAC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 20th

MADISON ROSS OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 5-9, 188-pound junior running back from Fort Worth, Texas, and MARQUIS BARROLLE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-4, 150-pound sophomore running back from Ingleside, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Players-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 20th. 

Ross led the 'Roos to a 21-12 win over Occidental College on Saturday afternoon in Sherman, Austin College's first win of the season.

Ross was spectacular, rushing 21 times for 187 yards and two scores while averaging 8.9 yards per carry. He made his mark late in the third quarter, where he found daylight and raced 83-yards for a score to give Austin College the lead for good.

Ross is currently second in the SCAC with 306 yards on the season while averaging 102.0 yards per game. He is second in the SCAC in touchdowns scored with three.

Barrolle was at it again, leading the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 38-32 win over the Louisiana College Wildcats to improve their record to 3-0 in 2014. 

Barrolle rushed 34 times for 179 yards and tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns to secure the big road win. He also added eight catches for 64 yards as the Bulldogs earned their first victory at Wildcat Field.

Barrolle leads the conference in yardage (485), yards per game (161.7 per game), touchdowns (7), and rushing attempts (96).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore quarterback Bryan Hick of Southwestern finished 24-of-38 (63%) for a career high 333 yards as he helped the Pirates to a program best 541 yards of total offenseJunior running back Travis Williams of Trinity led the Tigers with 96 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries in the game, averaging 4.4 yards/rush, and never getting caught for a loss in the game.
 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, Septemeber 20th

JAI BOATMAN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a 6-0, 180-pound senior defensive back from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 20th. 

Boatman led the Tigers to a 14-6 victory over Sul Ross State University on Saturday afternoon, picking up the team’s first win of the season.

Boatman picked up an interception for the third straight game to open the year, but it was what he did after the catch that was truly outstanding. Boatman took the interception back 54 yards for a touchdown to put Trinity ahead 14-0 midway through the second quarter.

For the season, Boatman now has three interceptions in three games for the Tigers, and is sixth on the team with 17 total tackles. He also leads the team with five total passes defended, adding a pair of pass breakups to his interception total. Boatman entered the season with just one career interception.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive back Scott Loy of Austin College came up big against Occidental in the 'Roos first win of the season, including making a huge diving interception inside the Austin College 10 yard line in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. Sophomore defensive end Justin Broussard of Southwestern continued to disrupt opponents backfields with 1.5 tackles for a loss and a sack. He finished with six tackles as well in a loss to ETBU. Sophomore defensive back Michael Wall of Texas Lutheran recovered two fumbles and had a key fourth-down stop in the fourth quarter against Louisiana College. He collected five total tackles and had a pass break-up in the Bulldogs' 38-32 win.

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 20th

BRETT H. VAUGHN OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 6-2, 240-pound junior defensive lineman from Carrolton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 20th. 

Vaughn played a huge role in special teams, helping the 'Roos pick up their first win of the season by defeating Occidental by the score of 21-12.

Vaughn made a game changing play, blocking a short field goal attempt as time expired on the first half to keep the game at 9-7 and shift all the momentum in favor of the 'Roos.

It was his first blocked kick of the season and the first of his career. Vaughn added a tackle on the afternoon. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman punter Davis King of Trinity punted seven times for a total of 330 yards on Saturday, averaging 47.1 yards/punt. He fired off punts of 74 and 56 yards on back-to-back attempts in the second quarter. Southwestern and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
