Texas Lutheran's Gulick; Trinity's Jorgens Named SCAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - First-year defender Zoe Gulick of Texas Lutheran University and senior midfielder Emily Jorgens of Trinity University were named Players of the Week for week seven of the SCAC women's soccer season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 6th – October 12th 

EMILY JORGENS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 6th through Sunday, October 12th.

Jorgens became the first player in SCAC history to reach 50 goals and 50 assists in a career over the last week, leading the third-ranked Tiger women’s soccer team to wins over Our Lady of the Lake and Centenary.

Jorgens scored the game-winning goal in Monday’s 4-0 shutout over Our Lady of the Lake, finding the back of the net in the 17th minute of action. On Friday, she scored three consecutive goals in the second half of play for the Tigers. The hat trick in Friday’s win over Centenary marks the third consecutive season that Jorgens has scored a hat trick, and she also scored her 50th career goal during the game. She is the first player in Trinity history to reach 50 goals and 50 assists, and she is now just nine goals from breaking the school record for a career.

For the season, Jorgens leads Trinity with 11 goals and 14 assists for a total of 36 points. She has also scored a team-best five game-winning goals for the Tigers. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Mandi Sherwood of Austin College provided the game winner in a 1-0 victory over Schreiner on Sunday. The goal was her team-leading fourth of the season and her third game-winner of the year. Sophomore midfielder Cascade Mayer of Dallas was responsible for the golden goal in the Crusaders' 1-0 overtime victory at Schreiner on Friday night. It was her second on the campaign, as the netter lifted Dallas to its fourth-straight win, all in conference. Mayer also added a team-high, three shots, in a 3-0 setback on Sunday to Texas Lutheran. Freshman defender Mackenzie Millican of Southwestern scored her second game-winning goal in as many games in a 1-0 win over Centenary on Sunday. Junior forward Sioned Kirkpatrick of Texas Lutheran played a key role in the Bulldogs' offensive outburst against Dallas, a 3-0 blanking on Sunday. She tallied an assist on Zoe Gulick's game-winning goal and followed that up with a goal of her own to make it 2-0. Centenary and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 6th – October 12th

ZOE GULICK OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a first-year defender from New Braunfels, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 6th through Sunday, October 12th.

Gulick was part of a Bulldog defensive effort that produced two conference shutouts - a 1-0 defeat of Austin College on Friday and a 3-0 blanking of the University of Dallas on Sunday.

In addition to her defensive efforts, Gulick provided the game-winning goal, not to mention tallying her first career assist, in Sunday's victory over Dallas. The victory put TLU in a tie for second place in the points column (15) with both Dallas and Southwestern.

Gulick's goal, which came in the 15th minute of Sunday's contest, was the second of her career.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya of Austin College had another stellar weekend in goal for the 'Roos, making eight saves and earning one shutout while boasting a .889 save percentage and finishing with a goals-against-average of just 0.5 in two matches. Junior goalkeeper Katherine Rodgers of Southwestern recorded her second straight shutout with a 1-0 win over Centenary on Sunday - the Pirates' only action of the week. Junior midfielder Kimberly Polasek of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of wins over the past week, allowing just one shot and one goal against Our Lady of the Lake and Centenary. Polasek and the Trinity defense secured the team’s eighth consecutive shutout to start the week on Monday against OLLU, then finished with Friday’s 9-1 win over Centenary. Polasek also contributed offensively, assisting on the first goal of the second half of Monday’s win over the Saints. CentenaryDallas and Schreiner did not nominate anyone for the award.
