Men's Basketball Recap (Week 5) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – This week, two of the eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball teams competed.

Centenary College had two games, while Southwestern University played in just one match up.

Centenary College
The Gents began their week with an 84-81 loss to the University of Texas-Dallas. After getting down by 12 at the break, the Gents were able to bring the score within one point with just six seconds to go, but a pair of free throws for the Comets made it a three-point margin and the Gents weren’t able to close the gap. Travion Kirkendoll continued an impressive start to his career, leading the team with 22 points, shooting 5-10 from the field and 11-14 from the charity stripe, while adding four rebounds and two steals. Kendall Demouchet put up 16 points in the game, pulled down three rebounds and marked two assists, two steals and two blocks. James Sapp earned his first double-double of the season, getting 15 points and 10 rebounds in the game. To finish the week, the Gents took on Rust College, earning a 104-88 win, marking their highest scoring game of the season. Demouchet had another dominating performance, shooting 10-15 from the field for 24 points, while grabbing seven rebounds and three blocks. Sapp put up 21 points in the game, shooting 5-6 from the field and a perfect 11-11 from the free throw line. Sapp also added three rebounds and two assists. Caden Cheramie and Brandon Campbell had 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Justin Cueto rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11, and marking a team-high eight rebounds.

Southwestern University
The Pirates fell to 1-3 this week, falling to Hardin-Simmons 81-63. After the first half, HSU had just a one-point lead, but the Cowboys shot 62% in the second half to extend their lead. Chris Molina led the team with 12 points in the game, while Blake Scott followed him up with 11. Scot also led the team with five rebounds, tied with teammate Ryan Ogden. Travis Kurtz and Zach Whitlock rounded out the top scorers, each adding 10 points. Kurtz also grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists. Connor Kim led the team with five assists.
