IRVING, Texas - With the score knotted at 67 inside of three minutes, Texas Lutheran University surged ahead and held on late to defeat Centenary College, 80-75. in the championship game of the SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Dallas. Tournament MVP Jordan Kouremetis led the Bulldogs with 20
points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals while Donte
McGee had 17 points and six rebounds. Sterling Holmes and Zach Behr
had 12 points each. Holmes also chipped in with team-highs of seven
rebounds and six assists.
McGee and Holmes both joined Kouremetis on the All-Tournament
Team.
With the victory SCAC Coach-of-the-Year Jimmy Smith, in his first
season in Seguin, led his Bulldogs to an incredible worst to first
turnaround from a year ago. The 2013-14 Bulldog squad finished
eighth in the SCAC with a league mark of 3-11 (9-17
overall).
Travion Kirkendoll had 18 points and six rebounds to lead four
Centenary players in double figures while James Sapp had 15 points
a game-high nine rebounds. Both Kirkendoll and Sapp were named to
the All-Tournament Team. Kendall Demouchet had 14 points, three
steals and two blocks off the bench for the Gents while Isiaiah
Whitaker added 10 points, four rebounds, four steals and three
assists.
Southwestern's Ryan Ogdin was also named to the six person
All-Tournament team.
Texas Lutheran improves to 18-9 with the win and will represent
the SCAC in next weekend's NCAA Division III Men's Basketball
Tournament. Centenary ends its season with an overall mark of 17-10
mark.
