Women's Soccer Recap (Week 8) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All seven of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer teams were in action this weekend for another round of conference matches.

Trinity University extended their overall winning streak to 14 games, improving to 9-0 in the SCAC with two wins this weekend. The University of Dallas is holding on to second place in the conference with six wins, while Texas Lutheran isn't far behind, with six wins of their own.

 

Conference Games

Texas Lutheran 1, Southwestern 0 (2OT)
The Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran came out with a win in double-overtime against the Southwestern Pirates Friday afternoon. The two teams remained fairly even throughout, with TLU outshooting SU by just three shots, 19-16. TLU goalkeeper Erin Rose marked six saves on the day to keep the Pirates out of the net. Just two minutes before the end of the second overtime period, TLU's Marisol Ramos was able to put in a golden goal off of an assist from Sioned Kirkpatrick. 

Dallas 5, Centenary 1
The Dallas Crusaders earned a dominating win over the Centenary Ladies Friday, winning 5-1. The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead going into halftime with goals from Mariah Fairbanks and Taylor Ray. Nichole Johnson scored a goal in the 50th minute on a penalty kick to extend the lead, before Centenary's Madison Alexander was able to convert a free kick into the team's lone goal. Rebecca Brunter and Mackenzie Vasile rounded out the Crusaders' scoring effort in the 70th and 86th minutes, respectively. Centenary's goalkeeper Erica Coker faced 14 shots on the day, marking 11 saves through 68 minutes. Dallas's goalkeeper Elena Naccari faced just two shots, saving one. 

Trinity 6, Schreiner 0
The Trinity Tigers earned their eighth win in SCAC play over the Schreiner Mountaineers Friday. Six different members of the Tigers scored in the game. Colleen Markey gets credit for the game-winner in the fourth minute off of an assist from Maggie Olvera. Emily Donnan and Yasmeen Farra recorded the other two goals of the first half. Kelsey Falcone started the scoring effort in the second half with a goal in the 57th minute, before Julia Camp and Shelby Hopkins followed in the 58th and 78th minutes, respectively. The Tigers defense didn't allow Schreiner to take a single shot, while Trinity was able to put up 24.

Austin 2, Centenary 0
The Austin College 'Roos defeated the Centenary Ladies 2-0 Sunday. Neither team was able to score through the first half, but AC's Cami Mavelian put in the eventual game winner in the 49th minute. Tyler Marquez added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute from 18 yards out off of an assist from Erin Eckart. Centenary goalkeeper Erica Coker marked eight saves on the day, facing 10 shots from the 'Roos. In 70 minutes of play, AC goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya put up three saves on all three shots she faced.

Trinity 9, Texas Lutheran 1
Trinity earned their 14th straight win this weekend over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in a 9-1 victory. The Tigers allowed just one shot from the Bulldogs, which marked their only goal. In the meantime, Trinity was able to mark 52 shots, putting 28 on target. TLU's goalkeeper Erin Rose marked nine saves on the day, facing 14 shots. Falcone put up 10 shots in the game to lead all players. In the first half, Kimberly Polasek marked the first goal of the game in the second minute before Emily Jorgens put in two goals in the 25th and 31st minutes. Emily Donnan finished out the half with a goal in the 34th minute. TLU's lone score came in the 65th minute as Tara Armstrong connected with Zoe Gulick for a goal. Over a 17 minute period, the Tigers were able to score five more goals. Hannah Kuhl marked the first in the 71st minute before Kelsey Falcone put up one less than two minutes later. Kimberly Polasek marked her second goal of the day in the 80th minute before Falcone put up her second in the 82nd minute. Alex Ortiz finished the scoring for both teams as she put in the Tigers ninth goal in the 88th minute.

Schreiner 1, Southwestern 0
The Mountaineers earned their second win in the SCAC with a 1-0 victory over Southwestern University. The game's lone goal came in the 35th minute as Bria Howard put in a score off of an assist from Ruth Blackburn. Both teams were only able to put up three shots apiece. Schreiner goalkeeper Megan Morant only faced one shot on the day, saving it, while Southwestern goalkeeper Katherine Rodgers faced two shots, marking one save.
