Centenary's Sapp Earns NABC All-Region First Team Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – James Sapp of Centenary College earned First Team All-South Region honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as selected by member coaches within Division III. Full Release

This marks the second national postseason honor for the sophomore from Shongaloo, La. Sapp was named to second-team All-South Region by D3hoops.com earlier this week. He was also named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

In his second season, Sapp led the conference in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game, while pulling down 8.0 rebounds – second in the SCAC. He shot 52.1% from the floor, fourth among the conference and second among the Gents’ squad.

In conference play, Sapp led all players in rebounding and scoring, averaging nearly a double-double, 18.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He also grabbed 35 steals on the season, fourth in the SCAC.

Sapp and the Gents earned their first regular conference title in over 20 years, posting an 11-3 record in SCAC play to share the trophy with Texas Lutheran University. The Gents also earned a win over Southwestern University in the SCAC tournament to make it to their second consecutive SCAC Championship game, but fell to TLU.

The Gents, under the leadership of head coach Adam Walsh, finishing their season with a record of 17-10.
