Centenary's Kirkendoll; Sapp Earn D-III News Recognition

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Centenary College freshman guard Travion Kirkendoll and sophomore forward James Sapp earned postseason honors from DIII News in the organization's final publication of the year. Full Release

Kirkendoll was named to the D-III News All-Freshman Team, recognizing the top-10 freshmen in the country in Division III. In his first collegiate season, the Campti, La., native averaged 12.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game and was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year. Kirkendoll's scoring mark ranks sixth among all SCAC players. He also averaged 1.1 steals per game, sixth in the SCAC, and shot .439 from the field. He scored in double figures 20 times this season, including 10 consecutive finish the season.

Kirkendoll notched a career-high 22 points on December 10 against the University of Texas-Dallas and tied that mark against the University of Dallas in February.

James Sapp was also honored by D-III News, earning Honorable Mention All-American recognition. Sapp was named the SCAC Player of the Year and also received D3hoops.com All-South Region Team and NABC All-South District Team selections. Sapp also earned SCAC Player of the Week honors five times this season.

In his sophomore season, Sapp averaged a conference-leading 16.3 points, while grabbing 8.0 rebounds, second in the SCAC, and shooting .521 from the floor, fourth in the conference.  He marked 23 double-digit scoring efforts, including eight games over 20 points. He also posted seven double-doubles. His season high 33 points came against Trinity University in a comeback win for the Gents, while he pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds against Austin College.

The pair of Gents helped lead Centenary to a share of the SCAC regular season title and a runner-up finish in the conference tournament.
