Southwestern's Gammill, Centenary's Thompson earn Golfer of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference names Taylor Thompson of Centenary College and Tyler Gammill of Southwestern University the Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, October 28.

 

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

TYLER GAMMILL OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman from Austin, Texas, is named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, October 28.

Gammill earned his second individual win at the Abilene Intercollegiate Tuesday, firing off a total score of 142, two strokes ahead of the next golfer to lead the Pirates to a fourth place team finish. Gamill’s other top finish came in the team’s last competition at the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University.

Gammill marked a 68 (-3) through the first 18 holes, the lowest round of the tournament, before putting up a 74 (+3) through the second day. Gammill’s first round score ties for his second-lowest of his career. His current career low is a 65 that he shot at the John Bohmann Memorial Invitational to begin the fall season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Adam Peterson of Texas Lutheran University  finished in ninth place at the Abilene Intercollegiate this weekend after marking a total score of 150 to help the Bulldogs to a sixth place finish. After marking a 79 through the first day, Peterson shot an even-par 71 through the final 18 holes to improve to ninth.

 

WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK

 

TAYLOR THOMPSON OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, La., is named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, October 28.

Thompson earned a 14th place finish in the Abilene Intercollegiate this week after shooting a 163 (+22) to lead the Centenary Ladies to a fifth place tie.

Thompson shot an 83 through the first 18 holes to put herself in a tie for 15th place with teammate Jamie Wright, but improved to an 80 in the second round. Thompson’s second round score is her second lowest round of the season, with the only better round being at the Birmingham Southern Tournament as a 77.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Autumn Durst of Texas Lutheran University finished the Abilene Intercollegiate in a tie for 26th place to lead the Bulldogs to an eighth place team finish. Durst shot rounds of 90 and 87 for an overall mark of 177.
