TLU's Padron Named USA College Football National Coach of the Week; Two SCAC Student-Athletes Also Honored

NEW YORK, N.Y. - In a release from earlier this week, Texas Lutheran University head coach Danny Padron was recognized by USA College Football as the Division III National Coach of the Week after the Bulldogs'  54-27 road win over Howard Payne on Saturday. Complete Release

In addition to the recognition for Padron, TLU's senior left tackle Matt Hochstrasser was honored as Division III Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week and sophomore punter Cooper Woodyard of Austin College was named the Division III Punter of the Week.

Padron and the Bulldogs moved to 5-0 in 2014 with a 54-27 road win over Howard Payne. TLU is 18th in the latest American Football Coaches Association Coaches' Poll for NCAA Division III.

Padron is in his fifth season with the Bulldogs. He is 26-18 overall after inheriting a program that had lost its previous 13 games and went 0-10 before his arrival. Padron is third on the all-time TLU football coaching wins list.

Hochstrasser, a senior offensive lineman, shared the Offensive Lineman of the Week honors with Hardin-Simmons center Dylan Reynolds.

Hochstrasser and his offensive line teammates paved the way for a record day from sophomore running back Marquis Barrolle, who carried the ball 23 times for a school-record 288 yards.

The Bulldogs rushed for 373 yards, more than 120 yards above the team's season average, against Howard Payne. The line did not allow a sack and has allowed only four sacks through five games.

The TLU offensive line was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Austin College's Woodyard, who had never punted in his college career prior to Saturday, played a huge role on special teams as the sophomore helped pin the Southwestern offense deep in its own territory all day long en route to the 20-13 victory over the Pirates.

Woodyard was sensational, averaging 41.1 yards on seven punts, two of which were downed inside the Southwestern 20-yard line. He had a long punt of 56 yards and was named SCAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for his efforts.
