Dallas' Nelson, Trinity's Donnan Named SCAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Freshman forward Alice Nelson of the University of Dallas and junior midfielder Emily Donnan of Trinity University were named Players of the Week for week six in the SCAC Women's Soccer season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 29th – October 5th 

ALICE NELSON OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a freshman forward from Jackson, Tenn., has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th.

Nelson led the Crusaders to a pair of huge wins at home this past weekend over Schreiner and Texas Lutheran to propel Dallas to second in the SCAC Standings.

Nelson broke a 1-1 tie in the 77th minute against Schreiner, scoring the go-ahead goal to give Dallas a huge 2-1 victory. Later in the week, she scored in the 38th minute against Texas Lutheran to extend the lead to two goals en rout to a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs.

For the season, Nelson is now second on the team in goals scored with three and points with six. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Kyli Scott of Austin College  tallied a fantastic goal in a 2-1 victory over Schreiner, heading home a corner kick two minutes into the game to put Austin College on top early. Scott was a threat all weekend, totaling four shots, including two shots on goal. Freshman defender Mackenzie Millican of Southwestern scored the game winning goal against Centenary to lead the Pirates to a 1-1 weekend in conference play. Junior forward Sioned Kirkpatrick of Texas Lutheran played a role in both of the Bulldogs' goals over the weekend as she got the week started by scoring the game-winning goal in TLU's 1-0 win over Austin CollegeJunior midfielder Maggie Olvera of Trinity led #3 Trinity's offense in a pair of SCAC victories over the past week, winning a road game at Southwestern, then capping things off with a home win over Centenary. Olvera nabbed a goal in each game, and also added an assist in the win over Centenary on Friday night. Centenary and Schrener did not nominate anyone.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 29th – October 5th

EMILY DONNAN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior midfielder from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 29th through Sunday, October 5th.

Donnan led No. 3 Trinity to two SCAC shutouts over the past week, scoring a road win over Southwestern, and a home victory over Centenary.

Donnan paced the Tigers to their seventh consecutive shutout, yielding just three total shots in the two games this week. Donnan and the defense held Centenary without a shot in Friday's win. Trinity has given up just seven total shots and no goals in six conference games so far this season.

For the season, Donnan and the Tiger defense have recorded eight total shutouts, and she has scored one goal to contribute to the offensive attack.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya of Austin College had a strong weekend to help the 'Roos go 1-1, making nine total saves and boasting a .818 save percentage. Lozoya only surrendered two goals, one of which came on a penalty kick, and made a save on another penalty kick. Freshman goalkeeper Elena Naccari of Dallas picked up two victories for the Crusaders, earning a pair of 2-1 victories over Schreiner and TLU while picking up eight total saves over the weekend. Junior goalkeeper Katherine Rodgers of Southwestern picked up a shutout win over Centenary and had 10 saves in a tough loss to Trinity. CentenarySchreiner, and Texas Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
