LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Four of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track & field teams competed this weekend.
Colorado College traveled south to Colorado State University Pueblo for the CSU-Pueblo Open this weekend, taking on NCAA Division II competition.
The University of Dallas and Texas Lutheran University traveled to Florida to compete at the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex this week.
TLU also traveled to University of the Incarnate Word for the UIW Open, joined by Trinity University.
Colorado College
The Tigers traveled to Pueblo, Colo. for the CSU-Pueblo Open last week to take on NCAA Division II competition. Stefani Messick started things off in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.44 followed by Beryl Coulter with a time of 2:29.89. Leah Wessler posted a time of 5:06.46 in the 1500 meter run to take seventh place and Rebecca Lavietes finished sixth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:23.86. In the 4x100 meter relay, the Tigers posted a fourth place finish with a time of 4:25.53. In the high jump, Ayla Loper took the top spot with a mark of 1.45 meters to finish out the meet for CC.
University of Dallas
The Crusaders traveled to Orlando this week to compete in the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open against competition through all NCAA Divisions, NAIA and club teams. Katie McIntyre started things off in the 200 meter dash with an 11th place finish and a time of 28.54 seconds. In the 100 meter hurdles, Elizabeth Depew took eight place with a time of 17.28 seconds. McIntyre also competed in the 400 meter dash, posting a time of 1:06.32 for 13th place. Depew and teammate Sarah Valdovinos finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles. The 4x400 meter relay team for the Crusaders took second with a time of 4:25.61 before the 4x1500 meter relay took fourth behind only Division I competition. In the 1500 meter run, Ruth Fritz took the top spot, finishing over 14 seconds ahead of her competition with a time of 5:26.62. Clare Myers took second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 20:11.11, while Emma Polefko finished fifth (22:12.86). Fritz took fourth in the 10000 meter run with a time of 41:19.47 and first among non-Division I competition. Colleen Slattery finished the day out for the Crusaders with a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase (13:03.32). The Crusaders took fourth in a field of 14 teams.
Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs made a spring break trip to Florida to compete in the Walt Disney World Track & Field Open this week, finishing seventh in the field of 14 teams, including competition from all NCAA divisions, NAIA and club teams. To start things off, Haleigh Garcia finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.97 meters. Cori Picazo finished seventh in the same event with a distance of 10.01 meters. In the discus throw, Brielle Brown took second with a mark of 39.17 meters, while teammates Meredith Berger and Jessica Brown finished sixth and seventh, respectively. In the 200 meter dash preliminaries, Morgan Lacy placed 14th with a time of 28.83, finishing just ahead of teammate Cori Picazo who ran a time of 28.95. In the 400 meter hurdles, the Bulldogs took second, third and 10th place. Haley Cortez led the trio in second with a time of 1:09.50, while Sandra Henderson was right behind her with a time of 1:09.79. Caitlyn Collins took 10th with a time of 1:24.77. The TLU 4x100 meter relay took fourth and the 4x1500 meter relay took fifth. The Bulldogs also competed in the UIW Open this week. Kelly Lochte took on the sprints, finishing 12th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.94 seconds and sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:08.23. Ranecia Faison took fourth in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles with times of 17.09 seconds and 1:12.29, respectively. Faison's time in the 100 meter hurdles was the top time among non-Division I competition. In the shot put, Haley Lasseter took third with a mark of 9.90 meters, while Megan Lee took the top spot in the javelin throw at 30.69 meters. Lassester took third in the Javelin with a throw of 27.33 meters.
Trinity University
The Tigers competed in the UIW Open this week against competition in NCAA Division I, Division III and NAIA. TU started things off with a second place finish in the 100 meter dash from Nkolika Nweke with a time of 12.41 seconds. She also took second in the 200 meter dash, 25.61 seconds. In the 400, Bailey Drury took led a trio of Tigers, taking third with a time of 1:01.29. She was followed by Julia Camp in fifth and Erika Hochstein in eighth. Mariana Sigala took third in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:56.65 before Genevieve Primeau took seventh in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:04.19. In both of these races, TU's top runner finished behind only Division I competition. Lead Wildman was the Tigers top finisher in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.25, finishing one-hundredth of a second ahead of teammate Ashley Ogilvie. The two switched spots in the 400 meter hurdles as Ogilvie took fifth and Wildman finished sixth. In the 4x400 meter relay, the Tigers took the top spot with a time of 4:11.61. This was more than 14 seconds ahead of the second place team. In the field events, Heather Hayes and Wildman started things off with a tie for second place in the high jump, posting a height of 1.42 meters. Taylor Floor took second in the pole vault at 2.50 meters, while Britney Sullivan took a top finish in the long jump at 5.56 meters. Sullivan also took first in the triple jump, marking a distance of 11.48 meters. Faith Deckard took second in the shot put with a throw of 10.33 meters and Katie Groke finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 25.84 meters.
