Women's Swimming & Diving Recap (Week 4) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's swimming & diving teams were in action this weekend.

McMurry University hosted its first home meet of the season, with the Warhawks falling to University of Texas-Permian Basin, but defeating St. Gregory's University.

Colorado College fell to Division II Adams State University at home Saturday.

Southwestern University defeated Centenary College in Shreveport, La. Saturday.

 

Centenary College
The Ladies hosted SCAC-opponent Southwestern University this weekend, but fell to the Pirates 161-75. The team started the meet out with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.56. Christy Wolterman finished the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 11:57.90 for a top finish before Kayla Thornhill earned second pale in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.56. Chloe Snow and Sharon Randolph placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 50 yard backstroke. Jane Barney earned a second place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.38. Caitlyn Faulhaber finished third in a close 50 free race, marking a time of 25.55, with teammates Snow and Randolph behind her in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Barney competed in the next race, finishing second in the 100 freestyle, just 46/100ths of a second shy of the top spot. Chelsea Russell marked a time of 1:02.23 in the 100 backstroke, less than a second behind the winner for second. Russell was on the winning side of another close race, taking first in the 200 yard IM, just 0.28 second ahead of her opponent. The Ladies finished the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay, marking a time of 1:47.42.

Colorado College
The women's swimming and diving team posted impressive results Saturday, but fell to Adams State University 137-91 at home. CC freshman Mary Rose Donahue won both the 1-and 3-meter diving competitions, while teammate Samantha Buxbaum finished second. Junior Megan Gillespie led the Big Cats with a pair of second-place finishes in the 400 yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Ellen Silk finished second in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:17.16, before anchoring the Tigers' 400-yard freestyle relay that finished second. Senior Katy Martinez and freshman Justina Zuckerman also posted second-place finishes in the meet, in the 200-yard back and 50-yard free, respectively.

McMurry University
The Warhawks hosted a tri-meet this weekend, earning a win over SGU, but falling to UTPB. McM started out the meet by winning the 200 yard medley relay, edging out the UTPB team by a quarter of a second, finishing at 1:58.31. Robyn Remschel, a part of the winning relay, also got her team a win in the 100 backstroke (1:00.17) and earned second in the 200 yard freestyle. Kelly McNamee was third in the 100 backstroke and Samantha Spain finished third in the 100 breaststroke. Kelsey Frazier finished second in a close 100 butterfly race and was defeated by 39/100ths of a second.

Southwestern University
The Southwestern Pirates traveled to Centenary this weekend to take on the Ladies, earning a 161-75 win. The women dominated the 50 fly, going 1-2-3 in the event. Blythe Nava led the charge in the 50 fly with a time of 27.61. Kenly Gaynor took second in the race and Madison Doty finished third. Doty, Marisa McCormack and Taylor Adams all won two events each. Doty took first in the 200 free and 100 back, McCormack in the 50 back and 50 free and Adams in the 50 breast and 100 free. Ryann Lawley posted a first place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.42 and Marissa Byrd took first in the 100 breast and Sarah Hacher won the 500 free.
