BLANCO, Texas -- Schreiner University jumped out to a two stroke lead with a first-round score of 339 (+51) on Day One of the 2015 SCAC Women's Golf Championship which is being contested at Vaaler Springs Golf Club in Blanco. Three Mountaineer golfers were scattered throughout the top 10, led by sophomore Kaycee Bankert 77 (+5) who was the only golfer to finish under 80 on a very cool, windy morning. Bankert, who led the field with 12 pars, holds a six-stroke lead over senior Jamie Wright of Centenary.
Schreiner's Melanie Dean is tied for seventh with a score of 86 (+14) while senior Maddie Scheidler finished with a score of 87 (+15) and is tied for ninth.
15th-ranked and defending SCAC Champion Trinity University is in second place with a team score of 341(+53) behind the play of sophomore Hanna Niner and freshman Shelby DeVore, who each shot an 84 (+12) in first round play to finish tied for third. The 2013 individual champion, junior Brigette Lee, checked in at sixth place with a score of 85 (+13).
Seniors Jamie Wright and Taylor Thompson led Centenary College with scores of 84 (+12) and 85 (+13). Wright currently sits in second while Thompson is in third. Their performances led the Ladies to third place with a team score of 370 (+82).
Southwestern University is in fourth with a score of 373 (+85). Junior Bernice Leonard led the Pirates with a score of 86 (+14) and is tied for seventh. Texas Lutheran University rounds out the leaderboard in fifth with a first-round score of 378 (+90) as senior Autumn Durst had the top score with a 91.
Junior Keeley Coburn and senior Lauren Boone of Southwestern round out the top indivudually as they are tied for ninth with a score of 87 (+15).
