BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, James Sapp of Centenary College, has earned Second Team All-South Region Honors by D3Hoops.com for his performance during the 2014-15 season. FULL RELEASE
Sapp, a sophomore forward from Shongaloo, La., earned the honor after finishing the season averaging a conference-leading 16.3 points per game. He also grabbed 8.0 rebounds per game, second among the SCAC and shot .521 from the floor, fourth in the conference.
The sophomore played in all 27 games for the Gents, leading them to their second consecutive SCAC championship game after earning a share of the regular season title. He scored in double-digits in all but four games this season, 20 or more points in eight games and two games above 30. He also posted seven double-doubles, with a season high 15 rebounds against Austin College in a 72-68 win by the Gents.
Sapp earned SCAC Player of the Week honors five times this season, the most by a player in a single season since the 1998-99 campaign when Bryan Egli of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won it six times.
Sapp helped lead the Gents to their first regular-season title since the 1989-90 season in the former Trans-Atlantic Athletic Conference (NCAA Division I). Centenary finished the season with a 17-10 record, 11-3 in conference.
