Football Recap (Week 4) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was another exciting and successful weekend on the gridiron as all four SCAC teams were in action.

It was a thriller in Sherman as Austin College went toe-to-toe with Howard Payne while Texas Lutheran continues to look dominant, traveling to Southwestern Assemblies of God.

Southwestern was on the road against a tough NAIA opponent while Trinity had upset on their mind as they welcomed in a Top 25 opponent.

Austin College
The 'Roos were at home again on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed in the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets (3-0). It was another come-from-behind effort for the 'Roos, scoring 16 points in the second half including 10 in the fourth quarter to take a 19-16 victory.

With the 'Roos down 16-12 with just under seven minutes to go, the Yellow Jackets drove to the AC four yard line. Richard Young's pass was intercepted on first and goal by Delmas Hoye, his second of the game, and returned 75 yards to the Howard Payne 23 yard line. From there, Noah Jesko found Mitch Trentman in the endzone from 10 yards out to give the 'Roos the lead for good. Shane Hodge would block a potential game-tying 45 yard field goal attempt as time expired.

Jesko finished 12-for-27 with 126 yards and two touchdowns. Trentman led all receivers with three catches for 53 yards and the game winning score. Defensively, Brooks Ward had 14 total tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss while Hoye had the two interceptions to go with six tackles and a TFL.

Austin College (2-2) will begin a month long road trip throughout October beginning next weekend as they travel to Georgetown to take on Southwestern (1-2) in a non-conference contest.

Southwestern University
The Southwestern Pirates returned to action as they took to the road to take on Oklahoma Baptist (4-1).

Without quarterback Bryan Hicks, the Pirates got off to a great start, opening the game with a Justin Pelt touchdown pass from 23 yards out to Kenneth Wynn, Jr. However, it was all Bison from there as they ripped off 51 unanswered for the 51-7 win.

Pelt finished 16-for-31 for 190 yards and a touchdown while Wynn, Jr. led all receivers with six catches for 80 yards and a score. A.J. McCort led the effort defensively with 13 tackles while Nik Kelly picked up his third interception of the season and added two pass breakups.

Southwestern (1-2) returns home this weekend as they welcome in Austin College (2-2) in a non-conference battle.

Texas Lutheran University
Texas Lutheran, ranked No. 21 in the nation (AFCA), continued their long road trip as they headed to Waxahachie, Texas to battle Southwestern Assemblies of God (0-3).

The Bulldogs overcame a slow start in the first quarter, ripping off 21 points in the second quarter and 23 points in the fourth quarter en rout to a 54-21 victory.

Trenton White went 25-for-36 for 329 yards and four scores while Marquis Barrolle added 139 yards on the ground on 16 carries and one touchdown from 83 yards out. Trinity University
The Trinity Tigers returned home this past Saturday as they welcomed in the 16th-ranked (D3football.com) Pacific Lutheran Lutes (2-0).

The Lutes were too tough to slow down offensively, scoring 28 points in the first half and pitching a shutout on the defensive side of the ball in the second half to take a 38-14 victory.

Travis Williams finished with 73 yards on 15 carries including two touchdowns. The offense struggled to move the ball again including two lost fumbles. Camden Joubert finished with nine tackles while Julian Turner added eight tackles and a 1.5 TFL. Connor Yorloff and Caleb Green each had interceptions as the defense forced three turnovers.
