Women's Track & Field Recap (Week 3) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s track & field teams competed this week.

Trinity University and Texas Lutheran University both traveled to Division I Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi to compete in the Islanders Open, facing members across all NCAA Divisions.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs had an impressive showing at the Islander Open, posting three top finishes. In the 100 meter dash, Brittany Steubing led the Bulldogs with a fourth place finish and a time of 12.82 seconds. Sandra Henderson came in right behind her in fifth place finishing in 13.05 seconds. Steubing also took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.93 seconds. In the 7000 meter run, Samantha Lopez took third, with a time of 31:06.10. Nativita Kaminski took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles event, posting a time of 16.05, while Ranecia Faison took third in the 400 meter event with a time of 1:08.64. The TLU 4x100 meter relay team of Henderson, Steubing, Sarah Randall and Morgan Lacy took the top spot with a time of 50.83 seconds. Randall and Henderson them teamed up with Kaminski and Faison in the 4x400 relay to finish second among non-Division I competition. Their time of 4:08.39 would have placed fourth among Division I competitors. In field events, Cori Picazo took first in the pole vault, posting a mark of 3.00 meters. She also took fourth in the long jump, 4.92 meters. Haleigh Garcia and Kaminski took third and fourth in the triple jump with marks of 10.64 and 10.04, respectively. In the shot put, Meredith Berger took third place with a toss of 10.66 meters. Brielle Brown finished second in the discus with a throw of 39.51 meters, while he also took third in the hammer throw at 23.22 meters. Her teammate Jessica Brown took second in that same event with a distance of 27.94. To finish out the meet, Berger earned the Bulldogs final top finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 25.79 meters. Steubing took third in the event (23.12 meters).

Trinity University
The Tigers took on competition among all three NCAA divisions this week at the Islander Open. Mariana Sigala earned the Tigers’ first top finish of the day in the 800 meter run, posting a time of 2:20.53. This was the top time among non-Division I competition, but would have ranked second among all runners competing, behind the top runner by less than one second. Katie Groke took second place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.85, while teammate Sarah Thornton took seventh in the event. In field events, Sarah Pickett earned a third place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters before Faith Deckard and Rebecca Earle took fourth (9.61 meters) and fifth (8.62 meters) in the shot put. Deckard also took fourth in the discus with a throw of 28.83 meters. In the final event of the day for the Tigers, Groke took second place in the javelin with a throw of 24.30 meters.
