Trinity's Markey, Dallas' Naccari Named SCAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference names Colleen Markey of Trinity University and Elena Naccari of the University of Dallas the women's soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games played through Sunday, November 2.

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 27th – November 2nd

COLLEEN MARKEY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., has been selected as the SCAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 27th through Sunday, November 2nd. 

Markey scored two goals against Southwestern University in Trinity's final game of the regular season, including on in each half.

Markey put up just four total shots within a 47 minute period, finding the net on two of them. Markey now has six goals on the season (tied for fourth on the team) and three assists (tied for sixth on the team) in 18 games played. She also has 15 points, which ranks fourth for the Tigers.

Trinity's perfect 12-0 record in conference play earned them the top seed in the SCAC. The Tigers will begin the SCAC tournament in the first semifinal match on Saturday.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC
Freshman midfielder Mackenzie Vasile of Dallas scored the lone goal in a win over Austin College Saturday. The victory helped Dallas clinch the third seed heading into the conference tournament next weekend. Sophomore forward Sioned Kirkpatrick of Texas Lutheran scored her third game winning goal of the season in a 1-0 win over Schreiner. It marked her team-leading seventh goal of the year and puts her fourth in the conference with 19 points. Austin CollegeCentenarySchreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 27th – November 2nd

ELENA NACCARI OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a freshman goalkeeper from Covington, La., has been selected as the SCAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 27th through Sunday, November 2nd. 

Naccari marked three saves in the match against the 'Roos, earning her fourth shutout of the season. The shutout helped the Crusaders clinch the third seed in the upcoming SCAC tournament, which would have otherwise gone to the 'Roos.

In 1116:00 minutes in the net, Naccari has marked a team-leading 64 saves, while marking a .753 save percentage.

The Crusaders will play in Friday's second quarterfinal match against Schreiner University. The winner will move onto the semifinals to play the second-seeded Texas Lutheran.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC
Junior defender Taylor Vatuna of Texas Lutheran helped the Bulldogs to a shutout of Schreiner University in their regular season finale. Vatuna also tallied her second assist of the year in the match. Senior defender Shelby Hopkins of Trinity anchored the back line for the third-ranked Trinity Tigers in their 6-0 shutout of Southwestern University. The Tigers' defense held the Pirates without a single shot attempt in the game. Austin CollegeCentenarySchreiner, and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
