Trinity's Emodi, Southwestern's Alford, TLU's Childres Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outside hitter Maggie Emodi of Trinity University, sophomore defensive specialist Andie Alford of Southwestern University, and sophomore middle blocker Carlie Childres of Texas Lutheran University were named Players of the Week for their performance in Week 10 of the SCAC Volleyball season.

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 27th – November 2nd

MAGGIE EMODI OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior outside hitter from Omaha, Neb., has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 27th through Sunday, November 2nd.

Emodi led the 21st-ranked Trinity Tigers to a 2-1 mark at the Trinity National Invitational over the weekend.

In their contest against 4th-ranked Wittenberg, Emodi led all players with 21 kills (4.20 kills/set). She finished the weekend with 39 kills (3.25 kills/set). Against Randolph-Macon, a regionally ranked opponent, she compiled a .364 attack percentage (.205 on the weekend). She also had 43 digs in all matches. 

For the season, Emodi is averaging 3.66 kills/set and .254 hitting percentage in 34 matches. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore outside hitter Madison Lee of Austin College had a strong weekend, totaling 28 kills and averaging 2.55 kills per set along with 1.64 digs per set in three matches for the 'Roos. Senior middle hitter Kristen Liberty of Colorado College finished with 12 kills and a .429 attack percentage as the Tigers swept Johnson & Wales in their only match of the week. Senior setter Kelli Bolen of Schreiner helped lead Schreiner to a 2-2 week with 141 assists and 35 digs including a huge five set victory over Centenary. Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Foster of Southwestern picked up 34 kills over the weekend including 13 in a win over Our Lady of the Lake while hitting .216 over the weekend. She also had 37 digs in the victory over regionally ranked Millsaps. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Fording of Texas Lutheran finished with 37 kills over the weekend including 14 in a huge four sest win over Our Lady of the Lake. Also added 48 digs to compile a double-double in all three matches she played in. Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone.

SCAC CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 27th – November 2nd

ANDIE ALFORD OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore defensive specialist from Mansfield, Texas, and CARLIE CHILDRES OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from Leander, Texas, have been named SCAC Volleyball Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 27th through Sunday, November 2nd.

Alford led the Pirates to another huge weekend, going 3-0 at their home tournament to increase their winning streak to 11 games. 

Alford finished with 67 digs in three games over the weekend, averaging 5.58 digs/set and adding six service aces. Against regionally ranked Millsaps, Alford came up huge with 28 digs in the contest. She followed that up with an 19 dig performance against Our Lady of the Lake and finished the weekend with 20 digs against Texas-Dallas.

For the season, Alford is fifth on the Pirates with 240 digs, averaging 2.58 digs/set throughout the season.

Childres led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record over the weekend as they wrapped up the regular season at the Southwestern Halloween Invitational.

Childres finished the weekend with 15 blocks over the weekend, averaging 1.25 blocks/set. She began the weekend with four blocks in a five set loss to Millsaps while adding eight kills on the offensive side. She followed that up with a career-high eight blocks against Texas-Tyler as they swept the Patriots. It was the most blocks for any Bulldogs in 2014. Finally, against Our Lady of the Lake, Childres added three more blocks and eight kills in a four set victory.

For the season, Childres lead the team with 0.68 blocks/set and 76 total blocks on the year. She is seventh in the SCAC in total blocks.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Rachel Fusselman of Austin College totaled 45 digs in three matches, averaging 4.09 per set in the team's three matches over the weekend to close out the regular season. Junior defensive specialist Sophie Merrifield of Colorado College led the team with 19 digs as the Tigers defeating Johnson & Wales in straight sets. Currently ranks third All-Time at CC in career digs. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Chapman of Schreiner had a huge weekend, leading Schreiner to a 2-2 week with 49 Kills, 37 digs, and six blocks. Senior middle blocker Erin Cusenbary of Trinity paced the Tigers with 13 blocks (1.08 blocks/set), and added 32 kills (2.67 kills/set), including 16 in her match against Hardin-Simmons (4.00 kills/set). Centenary and Dallas did not nominate anyone.
