LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Two of the six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s swimming & diving teams competed this weekend.
Colorado College hosted the University of La Verne and Austin College, earning a win over both teams.
Austin College
The ‘Roos fell 180-25 to the dominant Tigers and
165-33 to La Verne. Sarah Mann earned six place in both the 200
(2:21.85) and 500 (6:26.96) freestyle, while Lauren Wheeler marked
a fourth place finish in the 200 IM (2:27.18). Wheeler followed up
that performance with a third place finish in the 100 backstroke,
marking a time of 1:04.65. Margaux McCartney finished second in the
1-meter diving with a score of 190.65. Mann, Wheeler, McCartney and
Caitlyn Brugger teamed up for the 200 freestyle relay, earning a
fifth place finish with a time of 1:46.97, less than two seconds
out of the top spot.
Colorado College
The Tigers swept the weekend, earning a 180-25 win over
Austin College and a 137.5-80.5 win over La Verne. CC jumped out to
an early lead during the diving competition Tuesday night as
Mary Rose Donahue remained undefeated and set new CC
records in both the 1- and 3-meter events. She posted a winning
score of 297.52 in the 1-meter and 302.17 in the 3-meter. Teammate
Sam Buxbaum finished second in the 3-meter (207.15) and third in
the 1-meter (177.75). The Tigers then captured first place in six
individual races, led by Ellen Silk and Justin Zuckerman
with two wins apiece. Silk won the 200-yard individual medley with
a time of 2:19.52 and the 100-yard butterfly in 59.55, less than a
second ahead of teammate Olivia Dilorati. Dilorati's
time of 2:01.82 in the 200-yard freestyle was more than two seconds
better than the second-place finisher, while Justina
Zuckerman captured the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races in
25.48 and 56.03, respectively. Megan Gillespie won the
100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.88 and finished second in the 100 IM.
Katy Martinez (100-yard backstroke) and Emma
Holmes (500-yard freestyle) also posted second-place finishes
on Wednesday.
