MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior defensive lineman Tre Stewart of the Austin College 'Roos earned a spot on the first weekend's D3football.com Team of the Week.
Stewart, from Rowlett, Texas, was a menace all day in the Lynx backfield, making nine tackles including 3.0 for a loss of 18 yards and 2.5 sacks for a loss of 16 yards. Stewart made three solo stops and six assisted tackles. He was key to a great second half performance by the 'Roos, limiting Rhodes to only seven points in the second half.
It is the second straight year a SCAC football player has earned Team of the Week after the first weekend of games. A season ago, Trinity's Matthew Kennemer and Texas Lutheran's Ty Johnson earned the award following opening weekend.
Stewart becomes the first Austin College football player to earn the award since the Austin College offensive line won it as a group on Septemeber 16th, ,2009.
Stewart and the 'Roos return to action on Saturday as they travel to Marshall, Texas to take on East Texas Baptist.
