Bulldogs' Barrolle Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Texas Lutheran sophomore running back Marquis Barrolle was named to the D3football.com national Team of the Week for games played on Saturday, October 11. Complete Release

Barrolle topped the 200-yard mark for the third time this season, rushing for 247 yards in a Homecoming win against East Texas Baptist 55-49. Barrolle scored twice, on runs of 7 and 3 yards, and keyed a long scoring drive in the fourth quarter. As TLU drove 90 yards in 12 plays, taking 6:25 off the clock, Barrolle accounted for 44 yards on six carries and produced three first-down runs.

For the season, Barrolle is leading all of NCAA Division III in rushing yards (1,152) and all-purpose yards (1,333) as the sophomore sensation has produced two of the top 11 single-game rushing performances in the nation the last two weekends. He rushed for 288 yards on just 23 carries two weeks ago against Hardin-Simmons and followed that up with his 247-yard effort against ETBU. He is tied for third in the nation with 12 rushing touchdowns.

In just six games, Barrolle is already within striking distance of the school record for single-season rushing, which is 1,208 set by Royce Johnson in 1972.

His 1,152 yards ranks 17th in CAC/SCAC history for rushing in a single season. The conferene record, 1,882 yards, was established in 1994 by consensus First Team all-American Kelvin Gladney of Millsaps College.

Barrolle has already tied one of Gladney's conference records, earning his fifth SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week award this week. Gladney earned the award five times during his record-breaking 1994 season.

TLU is 6-0 for the second straight season. The Bulldogs enter the bye week with two weeks to prepare for No. 2-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Bulldogs and Cru meet at 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 at TLU's Bulldog Stadium.
