NEW YORK, NY - A total of 19 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference football players have been selected for the 26th USA College Football Division III Preseason All-American Teams.
Noah Jesko and Bryce Murphy of Austin College, Bryan Doolitte and Matt Hochstrasser of Texas Lutheran, and Conner Cox of Trinity were highlights of the team, earning the nod for first team.
Jesko, a senior quarterback from Dalhart, had a prolific 2013 campaign in which he was named first team All-SCAC. Jesko finished second in the conference with 2,117 passing yards and threw 13 touchdown passes.
Murphy, a senior running back from Crawford, led the SCAC in rushing with 876 yards and added eight touchdowns in 2013. Murphy averaged 6.1 yards-per-carry on his way to being named first team All-SCAC.
Doolittle, a senior defensive lineman from Houston, Texas, recorded 10.5 tackles for loss for 42 yards and four quarterback sacks for 25 yards. He also registered five quarterback hurries, a recovered fumble, a forced fumble and two blocked kicks as he earned first team All-SCAC honors.
Hochstrasser, a senior offensive lineman from Houston, Texas, led an offensive line that spurred the Bulldogs to one of the top offenses in the country. TLU ended the regular season fifth in D3 for total offense, ninth in passing offense, and 68th in rushing offense. Hochstrasser earned first team All-SCAC for his efforts in 2013.
Cox, a senior from Katy, Texas, was also a Preseason All-American prior to the 2013 campaign. Following the season, Cox was named to the All-SCAC First Team.
Five student-athletes were named to second team Preseason All-American in senior tight end Kyle Crawford and senior defensive lineman Tre Stewart of Austin College, senior offensive lineman Kendall Wilkerson and senior wide receiver Lewis Williams II of Texas Lutheran, and senior linebacker Connor Yorloff of Trinity.
Representing the third team is senior offensive lineman Brett Vaughn and senior defensive back Scott Loy of Austin College, senior defensive lineman Ethan Powell and senior kicker Tyler Brandenburg of Texas Lutheran, and senior wide receiver Matthew Kennemer of Trinity.
Finally, senior offensive lineman Cody Kovach of Austin College, senior running back A.J. Saucedo and senior defensive back Adam McGuire of Texas Lutheran, and senior wide receiver Cody Sandman of Trinity all earned spots on the honorable mention team.
