Women's Tennis Recap (Week 9) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Two of the seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis teams competed this week.

Southwestern University competed in three matches this week, while Texas Lutheran University played once.

Southwestern University
The Pirates took on three teams this week, going 0-3 overall. SU began the week against St. Catherine University Monday, but fell 7-2. SCU got out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play, and continued their dominance through the top three singles matches. SU finally got on the board as Nicole Wilson and Kali Rose picked up wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Over the weekend, Su took on Hardin-Simmons and McMurry, falling 7-2 on both occasions. Beginning with HSU, the Pirates faced a 3-0 deficit heading into singles action. Wilson won her second singles match of the week in a 6-1, 6-4 match at No. 4. Maranda Kahl picked up the Pirates final point as she took the sixth spot in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6. To close out the weekend, the Pirates took on the War Hawks. Emilie Moeller and Julie Swets teamed up in the top doubles spot, winning their match 8-2. The duos of Rose and Wilson narrowly fell in the No. 2 spot, 8-5, while Virginia Stofer and Kahl dropped the third line in an 8-6 battle. SU took a 2-1 lead heading into singles, but Rose was the only Pirate able to pick up a singles win as she took the No. 5 spot 6-3, 6-3.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs faced off against LeTourneau University at home this week, posting a 7-2 win over the YellowJackets. The duo of Sofia Vega and Allison McLain notched an 8-1 win in the top doubles spot, while Brooke Taylor and Joni Baxley earned TLU’s second point of the day in the third line with an 8-4 victory. The Bulldogs went on to win five of the six singles matches, giving up just four total games. Vega shut out her opponent, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win in the top spot. McLain followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Caitlin Zarr won 6-1, 6-0 in the third line. Megan Ingram posted a victory in the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-0 and Peyton Webster won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 to close out the match.
