TLU's Robert Jonas Selected Division III FAR Fellow

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Texas Lutheran University Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Robert M. Jonas has been selected as a 2015 NCAA Division III FAR Fellow.

Dr. Jonas, a professor and former chair of the Department of Biology, has been with TLU for 25 years and has served as the Faculty Athletic Representative for the last four years.

Jonas is the fourth SCAC Faculty Athletic Representative selected as an NCAA Fellow.

"I think the ability to interact with other Faculty Athletic Representatives and to learn more about the roles that they play and the type of things that are possible with the Faculty Athletic Representative should be interesting," said Jonas. "It will be good to see what types of things that maybe we should institute, what types of interactions with administration and faculty. Seeing the different roles of Faculty Athletic Representatives within conferences is beneficial. It's all a learning experience."

The FAR Fellows Institute was launched in 2010 and aims to increase the effectiveness of Division III FARs at the campus, conference and national levels.

Institute attendees will participate in a three-day professional development program at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18. The components of the program provide a thorough examination of best practices and issues surrounding the role and responsibility of the FAR, help FAR Fellows develop the leadership skills necessary to carry out their responsibilities on campus and in their conference, and strengthen the network of FARs needed to serve on conference, divisional and association-wide committees. The Institute will conclude with FAR Fellows committing to taking action on at least one idea.

Past representatives from the SCAC to participate in the Institute include: John Delaney of Southwestern University (2010), David Hoaas of Centenary College (2012) and Thomas Jodziewica of the University of Dallas (2013).
