Trinity's Men's Tennis Trio Advances to Main Draw at ITA National Tournament

SUMTER, S.C. - At the opening day of the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships, Trinity University's Adam Krull advanced in Division III singles, and the Tiger team of Jordan Mayer and Aaron Skinner in doubles Wednesday.

Krull, a junior transfer from Xavier University, defeated Zach Hewlin of Whitman College 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in a singles play-in match at the Palmetto Tennis Center. Up next for Krull will be a quarterfinals match against third-seeded Matthew Heinrich of the Stevens Institute of Technology at 10:30 a.m. ET Thursday.

Mayer and Skinner outfought Hewlin and Jake Hoeger of Whitman 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (13-11), with a tiebreaker played instead of a third set. The two Tiger seniors will take on the  second-seeded team Alex Ruderman and Ian Wagner of Emory University in the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

The Division III semifinals are slated for Friday, and the championship matches for Saturday. The singles and doubles winners of Divisions II, III,NAIA, and Junior College play on Sunday at the "Super Bowl," to determine overall champions.

Each of the three Tiger participants won ITA Regional titles last month.
