LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer teams continued the conference season this week.
The No. 3 Trinity University Tigers and the No. 16 Colorado College Tigers met for the first time this season as TU was able to earn a 1-0 win at home. The two teams will meet again next weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. Trinity now has sole possession of the top spot in the conference standings.
The University of Dallas beat Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University for the Crusaders first two wins of conference play.
Trinity 1, Texas Lutheran 0
After a weather delay caused the game to be postponed, the
Trinity Tigers hosted the Texas Lutheran Monday night, defeating
the Bulldogs 1-0. Emmanuel Raranje scored the game-winning goal for
Trinity in the 31st minute off of an assist from Goncalo
Santana and Simon Uribe. TLU goalkeeper Jonathan Michael marked
nine saves on the day, while facing ten shots. Trinity’s
keeper, Matt Cardone, put up four saves in the game.
Texas Lutheran 1, Austin College 0
The Bulldogs took down the Austin College ‘Roos 1-0
in an overtime battle Friday afternoon. Nathan Drouillard knocked
in the game winner in the 94th minute off of an assist
from Isaac Lopez. TLU held the ‘Roos to just four shots
on the day, three on target. TLU goalkeeper Michael was able to
stop all three of the shots. AC goalkeeper Andrew Celio put up
seven saves on the day.
Schreiner 1, Dallas 2
The Dallas Crusaders were able to pick up their first
conference win of the season over the Schreiner Mountaineers Friday
afternoon. Dallas’s Nathan Nwaeze scored both goals, in the
5th and 59th minutes. UD held a 20-6 shot
advantage, however, both teams put five on target. Matthew Wise led
the Crusaders with six shots, just ahead of Nwaeze who put up five.
Wise marked an assist on the Crusaders’ second goal. Justin
Edwards of Schreiner gave the Mountaineers their only score of the
day, putting up an equalizer in the 50th minute off of a
penalty kick. This was Edwards’ only shot on the day. UD
goalkeepers Tino Gamueda and PJ Hasson teamed up for four saves. SU
keeper Blake Lawson marked three saves of his own.
Trinity 5, Centenary 0
The Trinity Tigers hosted the Centenary Gents Friday,
earning a 5-0 win. The Centenary defense held the Tigers without a
goal in the first half of the game, as Gents’ goalkeeper
Rylan Whan marked five saves through the first 45 minutes. The
Tigers’ came out quick in the second half, as Victor Araujo
scored the eventual game-winner in the 49th minute off
of an assist from Brent Mandelkorn. Johnny Lawson followed suit by
putting up three goals in the 58th, 62nd and
68th minutes. Ryan Lord finished off the scoring attack
with the Tigers’ fifth goal in the 82nd minute.
The Tigers held Centenary to just two shots on the day, while
marking 39 of their own. Centenary Goalkeeper Rylan Whan marked 14
saves and is now second in the SCAC for total saves on the
season.
Colorado College 3, Southwestern 0
The Colorado College Tigers took down the Southwestern
Pirates Friday night 3-0. CC’s Max Grossenbacher marked the
eventual game-winner in the 21st minute, and followed it
up with another goal just 45 seconds later. Caden Mackenzie added
CC’s third goal in the 60th minute off of an
assist from Trevor Houghton. Southwestern goalkeeper Travis
Carmichael marked four saves on the day, while CC keeper Theo
Hooker was able to stop both shots he faced in the game. The Tigers
were able to hold a 16-4 shot advantage, putting seven of their
shots on goal, compare to just two for the Pirates.
Trinity 1, Colorado College 0
In a battle between the SCAC’s two nationally ranked
teams, both the Tigers, Trinity was able to take home the win after
a 57th minute goal by Kellen Reid. Most statistics
remained even through the game, as TU put up 18 shots, while CC had
16. TU goalkeeper Matt Cardone marked six saves, his highest for
the season. CC Keeper Theo Hooker marked seven saves, allowing just
his second goal of the season. Brandon Ogilvie led CC with five
shots, three on goal, but couldn’t get past Cardone. Dylan
Blumberg put up four shots to lead the Trinity shooting attack.
Schreiner 2, Austin 0
Schreiner kept Austin College from picking up their first
conference win of the season, defeating the ‘Roos 2-0 Sunday.
Justin Edwards and Ryan Hernandez marked the Mountaineers two goals
on the day. SU held an 18-8 shot advantage, putting nine shots on
goal. AC goalkeeper Celio marked seven saves on the day. Schreiner
goalkeeper Lawson faced just one shot through the match and was
able to keep it out of the net. Edwards led all players with five
shots, four on goal. Joey Alcocer of AC led the ‘Roos with
three shots on the day.
Dallas 1, Texas Lutheran 0
The Crusaders picked up their second win of the weekend
over the TLU Bulldogs. Colton Allen marked the eventual game-winner
in the 31st minute off of an assist from Matthew Wise.
Despite holding a 16-10 shot advantage, the Bulldogs were only able
to mark four shots on goal, which UD goalkeepers Gamueda and Hasson
were able to stop. TLU’s goalkeeper Michael marked two saves
on the three shots he faced.
Southwestern 1, Centenary 0
The Pirates hosted the Gents Sunday, earning their fifth
conference win. Andres Carreno-Mendes marked his conference-leading
third game-winning goal of the season in overtime. The Pirates held
a 20-7 shot advantage, but only put six shots on target.
Gents’ goalkeeper Whan put up five saves on the day. The
Pirates’ keeper, Carmichael marked four saves, earning a
shutout.
