LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All six of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s golf teams competed this week.
The University of Dallas, Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University all competed in the University of Texas-Dallas Spring Classic.
Southwestern University and Trinity University traveled to California to compete in the West Cup hosted by the University of La Verne and Centenary College hosted the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate in Bossier City, La.
Centenary College
The Gents hosted the Sal Hutton Intercollegiate this week in Bossier City, La.
University of Dallas
The Crusaders went across town to UT-Dallas to compete in the Spring Classic hosted by the Comets. Led by Chris Eckes, UD took seventh among the field. Eckes posted a two-round score of 149 through the first day, holding on to a top-10 spot, before shooting a 92 through the final round to fall to 19th. Matthew Nickel posted an overall mark of 270 for 37th place, followed by Michael Sarrat in 39th place, shooting 297. Kevin Thornton rounded out the scoring members of the team, posting a 377 for 40th place, while Chris Sarrat added a 393.
Schreiner University
The sixth-ranked Mountaineers are three-for-three in competition this spring, winning the UTD Spring Classic this week. Schreiner got out to a good start on the first day, posting a team score of 294, the lowest team round of the competition. The Mountaineers posted an overall score of 900, finishing six shots ahead of No. 18 TLU in second place and 23 shots ahead of third place, No. 22 Concordia University. Four of the five SU players competing finished in the top-10, led by Cheyne Kendall in second place. Kendall posted a 221 through the competition, just one shot ahead of teammate Matt McClung and six shots ahead of Jimmy Keener. Zach Oliver rounded out the scorers for the Mountaineer squad in eighth place, shooting a 230. Ian Davis was the final SU player in attendance, shooting a 255 for 30th place.
Southwestern University
The eighth-ranked Pirates traveled to California to compete in the West Cup this week, taking on some of the top-ranked teams in the country. SU finished fifth in the field of 15 teams, led by Jordan Cowart who took fourth overall. Cowart Cowart shot a 220 (+4) through the 54-hole competition, including the lowest score of the second round, 69 (-3). Just two shots behind Cowart is teammate Sutherland Stith who shot a 222 for seventh place. Tyler Gammill finished the competition in a tie for 26th after shooting a 232 and Connoy Murphy shot a 234 for 30th to round out the scoring members. Cody Hebert was the last Pirate in attendance, finishing in a tie for 56th place after shooting a 247.
Texas Lutheran University
The No. 18 Bulldogs took second at the UTD Spring Classic this week, led by Adam Peterson who posted his second individual title in as many competitions. Peterson got out to a great start, shooting 69 (-3) through the first two rounds, both the low round for the day. Despite shooting a 77 on the final day, Peterson finished six shots ahead of second place with a 215 (-1). Kraig Zimmerhanzel and Taner Zimmerhanzel also posted top-10 finishes, shooting 228 and 232, respectively. Stephen Bratz took 13th place in the competition, marking a 234, while Matthew Grant rounded out the team in a tie for 27th place, shooting a 252.
Trinity University
The No. 20 Tigers took sixth in Beaumont, Calif. this weekend at the West Cup, finishing behind a handful of nationally-ranked teams. The Tigers shot a three-round score of 929, led by Diego Trevino and Redmond Lyons in a tie for 21st. Trevino and Lyons posted identical marks of 230 for the Tigers’ top finish. Kalen Vos was close behind the pair, firing off a 232 for 26th place and Alex Hartzell rounded the scorers out in a tie for 39th after shooting a 237. Trevor Warner was the final Tiger to take part in the competition, shooting a 243.
