KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Trinity Tigers women's soccer assistant Owen Collie has been selected as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America West Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

It marked the second consecutive time (in his four seasons at Trinity) Coach Collie received the high honor from the NSCAA. Coach Collie was only one of two coaches selected from the ranks of the NCAA Division III.

The Regional award consisted of eight coaches from numerous schools, including Division I members West Virginia University, Washington University, Texas A&M University, Florida State University, and the University of Wisconsin.

Head Coach Lance Key and Coach Collie guided the Tigers to a 22-1-1 season. Trinity advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the 10th time under the leadership of Coach Key. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA round of 16, after winning two games on Trinity's field.

In 2013, Coaches Key and Collie led Trinity to the NCAA Championship game, played before a huge and vocal hometown crowd at San Antonio's Toyota Field.

Coach Collie began his coaching career with his alma mater, the University of the Incarnate Word, located in San Antonio. He was an assistant with the Cardinals from 2007-2009. A native of Aberdeen, Scotland, Coach Collie earned a bachelor's degree in sports management from UIW in 2006, as well as a master's in kinesiology in 2009.

He played for Incarnate Word men's team from 2002-2006, and appeared in 57 games. The team advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs each season of his competition.
