LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Five of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s swimming & diving teams competed this weekend.
Southwestern University traveled to McMurry University for a double-dual meet, taking on both the Warhawks and University of Texas- Permian Basin.
Centenary College hosted Austin College in a dual meet Saturday, while Trinity headed to the University of Chicago for a double-dual against Chicago and DePauw University.
Austin College
The ‘Roos traveled to Shreveport, La. to take on
Centenary College in a dual meet this weekend, but fell 111-69 to
the Ladies. Lauren Wheeler had a hand in all three of the wins that
Austin College posted, including two individual wins for her and a
dominating win in the 200 freestyle relay, where Wheeler swam the
lead-off leg. Wheeler started off with a win in the 50 freestyle,
marking a time of 25.19. She followed that up in the 100
backstroke, winning the event by more than eight seconds over the
next swimmer (1:04.03). In the 1000 free, Sophie Anderson and Sarah
Mann posted second and third place finishes, respectively, with
times of 12:19.22 and 12:21.50. Caitlyn Brugger earned a third
place finish in the 50 free with a time of 28.13 before taking part
in the ‘Roos winning relay. Simran Likhari, Mandi Sarembock
and Oksana Gil finished 2-3-4 in the 100 breast stroke, as Likhari
led the pack with a time of 1:22.21.
Centenary College
In the Ladies final meet of the regular season, they
posted a 111-69 win over SCAC opponent Austin College. Seniors
Chelsea Russell, Christy Wolterman and Kayla Thornhill logged event
wins to guide the Ladies. Thornhill recorded a time of 2:05.66 in
the 200 free and followed with a 1:17.27 in the 100 breast. Russell
garnered wins in the 200 individual medley (2:20.63) and 100
butterfly (1:02.72). Wolterman’s victory came in the 500 free
(5:49.33). Wolterman also finished second in the 200 free with a
time of 2:09.38. Alexandria Taylor started things off for the
Ladies with a time of 11:49.84 in the 1,000 free. Taylor also
finished second in the 500 free with a time of 5:53.25. Jane Barney
claimed the title in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.55 followed
by Caitlyn Faulhaber in second with a time of 1:01.52. Faulhaber
added a second place finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.43.
Barney finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.69.
Chloe Snow added a pair of second place finishes in the 200 IM
(2:49.99) and 100 backstroke (1:12.39).
McMurry University
The War Hawks hosted a double-dual with SCAC opponent
Southwestern and UT-Permian Basin this weekend, however, they came
out on the short end in both duals. The War Hawks' women's team
lost to the Pirates by a score of 191-75 and to the Falcons,
163-68. Freshman Robyn Remschel highlighted the meet for
the McM squad as she remained unbeaten in the 100 backstroke (9-0)
and the 200 backstroke (6-0). Versus UTPB and Southwestern,
Remschel won the 100 back in a clocking of 1:01.21 and took the 200
back in 2:11.85 minutes. Amber Garrett was the runner-up
in the grueling 1000-yard freestyle, touching at 11:53.46 minutes.
Kelsey Frazier earned a third place in the 100 butterfly
(1:06.28).
Southwestern University
In a double-dual hosted by McMurry, the Pirates defeated
both the War Hawks (191-75) and UTPB (144-135). The women's medley
relay set the tone for the day by winning the 200 medley relay.
Madison Doty, Taylor Adams, Blythe Nava and Marisa McCormack won by
over two seconds with a time of 1:55.17. Marissa Byrd continued the
winning ways in the 100 breast, out touching teammate Natalie
Lesnick at the wall in 1:13.52. Byrd also won the 200 breast with a
time of 2:38.34. In the diving events, the women made it a 1-2-3
finish on the 1-meter board with Abby Miller winning with a score
of 140.85. Haylee Knight finished second and Delaney Dunn third.
Miller also won the 3-meter event with a score of 176.32.
Trinity University
Sarah Kate Mrkonich won both the 1-meter and 3-meter
boards, marking scores of 287.10 and 304.20, respectively. Teammate
Danielle Freund finished second in both of these events, while
Christine Peterson finished fourth on the 1-meter board and third
on the 3-meter. Lindsay Hagmann marked the Tigers only individual
swimming event win, taking first-place honors in the 50 free with a
time of 24.66 seconds.
