TLU's White, Austin's Hoye and Hodge Named SCAC Football Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Junior quarterback Trenton White of Texas Lutheran University, sophomore defensive back Delmas Hoye, and senior defensive back Shane Hodge of Austin College were named SCAC Football Players of the Week for their performance in Week 4 of the SCAC football season. 










SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, September 27th

TRENTON WHITE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-9, 160-pound junior quarterback from Sachse, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 27th. 

White had a huge game through the air for the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, as they picked up their third straight road win over Southwestern Assemblies of God, 54-21. 

White thew for 329 yards and four touchdowns in the Bulldogs' victory. He completed 69.4 percent of his passes, going 25-for-36, and averaged 9.1 yards per attempt. He led the Bulldogs to an electric 21-point second quarter as well as a 23-point fourth quarter.

White leads the conference the top offense in the conference in passing yardage, averaging 241.2 yards/game and eight touchdowns while only throwing two interceptions on the season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior running back Travis Williams of Trinity scored both of the team’s touchdowns on the ground, picking up 73 yards on 15 carries, averaging 4.9 yards/carry in the game. Austin College and Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, Septemeber 27th

DELMAS HOYE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 5-10, 157-pound sophomore defensive back from Gladewater, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 27th. 

Hoye led the 'Roos to a 19-16 victory over Howard Payne University on Saturday afternoon, holding the Yellow Jackets to only seven points in the second  half.

Hoye helped change the face of the game in the win, making two second half interceptions. In the fourth quarter with under seven minutes to play and Austin College down 16-12, Hoye picked off a pass at the two yard line on first and goal and returned it 75 yards to the HPU 23 to set up the game winning touchdown. He also added six tackles and a tackle for loss.

For the season, Hoye is tied for fourth in the conference and first on the team with two interceptions and becomes the second SCAC player this season to pick off multiple passes in a game (Nik Kelly, Southwestern - 2). He also leads the conference in yardage after a turnover with 96. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive back Jordan Sims of Texas Lutheran intercepted a pass and took it back 25 yards for a touchdown against Southwestern Assemblies of God. The INT return for score turned a 10-7 TLU lead into 17-7 in the second quarter. Sophomore linebacker Julian Turner of Trinity led the Tiger defensive efforts in a 38-14 loss to #16 Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday evening. Turner finished with eight tackles in the game, picking up three solo stops and five assists. Southwestern did not nomiante one.

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SHANE HODGE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a 5-10, 170-pound senior defensive back from Perryton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, September 27th. 

Hodge played a huge role in special teams, helping the 'Roos pick up a huge win over Howard Payne, 19-16.

With the 'Roos up 19-16 with four seconds to play, the Yellow Jackets lined up for a 45-yard field goal to tie it. Hodge rushed off the edge and got a piece of the kick to end the game and give the 'Roos their second win of the season.

In addition to the blocked kick, Hodge had two tackles and an interception as the 'Roos defense shut down Howard Payne's high powered offense in the second half.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore punter Chadd Brown of Texas Lutheran punted three times for 146 yards, with an average of 48.7 per kick. He put all three punts inside the opponents 20-yard line. Senior wide receiver Matthew Kennemer of Trinity led Trinity with more than 200 all-purpose yards in the team’s loss to 16th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday. Kennemer had five kick returns for 181 yards in the game, finishing with the second-highest total in school history for a single game. Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
