SCAC Lands 17 on NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches released the 2014-15 NABC Honors Court Thursday and 17 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball student-athletes earned the honor.

The NABC Honors Court recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season with a record number of 1,000 student-athletes from more than 350 colleges and universities. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.

Colorado College led the way with seven student-athletes earning the honor. Southwestern University and Trinity University joined with three student-athletes apiece, while Austin College and Texas Lutheran University each added two.

Alvin Michael of Austin College, Trinity's James Clark, Matt Selling and William Young, and Southwestern's Travis Kurtz, Carson Severson and Lucas Smith all earned the honor for the second consecutive year.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
  1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
  2. Cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year.
  3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
  4. Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
