Dallas' Mannings; Colorado College's Worthington Named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - University of Dallas forward Ben Mannings and Colorado College defender Andrew Worthington have been named SCAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for week two.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 1 – 7

BEN MANNINGS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore forward from Bath, England, has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septemerber 1st through Sunday, Septemeber 7th. 

Mannings led Dallas to a pair of victories in the great northwest as the Crusaders improved to 4-0 on the season. 

Mannings scored a pair of game winning goals, scoring in the 31st minute in a 2-0 win over Linfield and following that up with a goal in the 88th minute to take a 1-0 win over Pacific. 

All five of Mannings shots were on target. He is also helped lead a defense that has yet to allow a goal in 2014.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Kellan Klaus of Centenary provided the lone goal in the Gents' 1-0 victory over Howard Payne on Saturday evening and helped the Maroon and White to their best start since 1996. Freshman midfielder Christian Lopez of Southwestern earned his first starts ever for the Pirates, and delivered the first goal of his career vs Hardin Simmons. Sophomore forward Alejandro Martinez of Texas Lutheran scored the game winning goal againt the YellowJackets in overtime, his second goal of the season. It was his first game winning goal of 2014 after tallying four a season ago. Senior midfielder Roberto Camargo of Trinity netted the game-winning goal in overtime against Hardin-Simmons on Friday evening, helping the Tigers escape with the winAustin College, Colorado College, and Schreiner did not nominate anyone.


SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ANDREW WORTHINGTON OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior defender from Hinsdale, Ill., has been selected the SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, Septemerber 1st through Sunday, Septemeber 7th. 

Worthington anchored the Colorado College defense that limited the opposition to just six total shots on goal in two games

The Tigers, led by Worthington, posted its second shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Kean. Earlier in the week, they defeated George Fox 5-1 thanks in part to a goal from Worthington.

Worthington is now tied for the team lead in goals, which is one more than his total from his first three season at Colorado College. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore goalkeeper Rylan Whan of Centenary provided a stellar outing in goal for the Gent, earning his first shutout of the season and helping the Maroon and White to their best start since 1996. Senior defender James Bernard of Dallas led the Crusaders to a pair of shutouts over Linfield and Pacific, picking up their third and fourth shutout of the season. The Crusaders have yet to give up a goal in 2014. Sophomore defender Curran Daniel of Southwestern his strong play in the back line is helping the Pirates sort a solid line-up for the remainder of the season. Junior defender Alex Cortes of Texas Lutheran splayed 121 minutes in TLU's two games, earning two shutouts in the process and assisted on the game winning goal over LeTourneau. Austin College, Schreiner and Trinity did not nominate anyone for the award.
