LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer teams continued conference play this weekend.
Trinity University and Colorado College are tied for the top spot in the conference with three wins apiece. Colorado College continued a seven game winning streak, while Trinity extended their own streak to four. Both teams are 7-1 overall for the season.
Colorado College’s Brandon Ogilvie recorded all four of the team’s points this weekend. He now leads the conference with eight goals, scoring seven of those in the last three games, including a hat trick against Concordia (MN) last weekend.
Ogilvie is one point behind Trinity’s Johnny Lawson who has now racked up 18 points on the season, who scored three more goals this weekend.
Conference Games:
#22 Colorado College 2, Schreiner 1:
The Tigers picked up their second win of conference play
against Schreiner. After being held without a goal through the
first half, Ogilvie struck first, scoring his first goal of the
weekend just eight minutes into the second half. Just five minutes
later, Schreiner’s Gregg Guittierez put in a goal of his own
to tie the match up at one. In the 75th minute, Ogilvie
scored the game-winner. Colorado College goalkeeper Theo Hooker
recorded two saves on the day, while facing just three shots on
goal. Schreiner’s goalkeeper faced the same number of shots,
but recorded just one save.
#4 Trinity 7, Austin College 0:
The Trinity Tigers matched up with the Austin College
‘Roos in their second conference game of the season. The
Tigers outshot AC 42-4, recording 18 shots on goal. AC goalkeeper
Andrew Celio recorded 11 saves on the day. Trinity’s Johnny
Lawson put up the first two goals of the game, including the
eventual game-winner in the 12th minute, off of assists
from Victor Araujo and Simon Uribe. Derrick Horvath snuck in the
Tigers’ last goal before the break in the 44th
minute off of an assist from Murray Fraser. Goncalo Santana scored
his own goal just six minutes into the second half off of an assist
from Tom Carwile. Carwile got a goal of his own eight minutes later
as Araujo and Roberto Camargo teamed up for the assist. Nate
Dauphin and Daniel Ruano scored the team’s final goals in the
85th and 89th minutes, respectively.
Centenary 0, Texas Lutheran 0:
The Centenary Gents and Texas Lutheran Bulldogs finished
their conference match-up with a double-overtime 0-0 draw. Despite
getting outshot 25-6, the Gents goalkeeper Rylan Whan was able to
stop all seven of the Bulldogs on-target shots. Isaac Lopez led the
shooting attack for TLU, recording four shots, two on goal through
the game. Centenary’s Ivann Amaya put up three of the six
shots for the Gents, recording both of the team’s shots on
goal. TLU goalkeeper Jonathan Michael stopped both of Amaya’s
shots, marking two saves on the day.
Southwestern 1, Dallas 0:
The Southwestern Pirates picked up their first conference
win over the University of Dallas this weekend. Both teams remained
close throughout, with UD marking 15 shots and three shots on goal,
while SU put up 14 shots, three on goal. Pirates’ goalkeeper
Travis Carmichael recorded all three of the stops. UD goalkeepers
P.J. Hasson and TIno Gamueda split time in the goal. Hasson marked
two saves, while Gamueda picked up his first loss at goalkeeper.
Dallas’s Colton Allen led both teams with six shots in the
match, placing two on goal. Southwestern’s Andres
Carreno-Mende was just behind with five shots. It was Zach Faulkner
of SU who marked the game’s only score, putting in a penalty
kick in the 55th minute.
Southwestern 3, Austin 0:
The Pirates marked their second win of conference-play
with a 3-0 win over Austin College. The Pirates outscored the
‘Roos 20-8 on the day, putting up 10 shots on goal. AC
goalkeeper Celio marked seven saves on the day. SU’s
Christian Lopez scored the first two goals of the game in the
13th and 31st minutes. David Arellano and
Andres Carreno-Mende assisted on the first. Ryan Jones put in the
final goal in the 76th minute. Travis Carmichael
recorded three saves at goalkeeper for the Pirates.
Trinity 4, Dallas 1:
The Tigers improved to 3-0 on the weekend with a 4-1
defeat of Dallas. Trinity outshot the Crusaders 31-13, while
placing 13 shots on goal. Hasson and Gamueda in goal for Dallas
recorded nine saves together. For the Tigers, Matt Cardone and Chad
Margotta split time in the goal, facing just three total shots and
saving two. Colton Allen of Dallas scored the first goal of the
game in the 10th minute off of an assist from Nathan
Nwaeze. Trinity’s Carwile tied it up in the 14th
minute with a goal of his own off of an assist from Johnny
Lawson. The Tigers recorded two more scores before halftime,
the first from Ian Morris in the 35th minute assisted by
Lawson, and finishing the half with a goal from Zac Treu. In the
62nd minute, Lawson got a goal of his own as he took a
penalty kick for the Tigers. This marks his third goal of the
weekend.
Colorado College 2, Texas Lutheran 1:
The Tigers picked up their seventh consecutive win against
the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, as Brandon Ogilvie scored his third
and fourth goals of the weekend. Ogilvie struck fist in the
30th minute off of an assist from Christian Wulff. Less
than two minutes later, TLU’s Alejandro Martinez took a 20
yard shot to tie the game at one point. Neither team could put
another goal in during the second half as the game headed into
overtime. Ogilvie and Wulff teamed up again in the 94th
minute to score the game-winner. At goalkeeper for TLU, Jonathan
Michael recorded nine saves, while CC’s keeper recorded
three.
Schreiner 2, Centenary 1:
Schreiner improved to 1-2 in conference play with a 2-1
victory over the Centenary Gents. Centenary’s Reece Durham
gave the Gents a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute off of an
assist from Jason Aiken that held until the 51st minute
when Gregg Guittierez tied it up with an assist from Ryan
Hernandez. Neither team was able to score in throughout the rest of
regulation. The game went into double-overtime after neither team
marked any points in the first overtime period. In the
118th minute, Chase Smith received a pass from Nathaniel
Olmos to knock in the Mountaineers game-winning goal. For
Centenary, Rylan Whan recorded three saves on the day.
Schreiner’s goalkeepers faced just two shots on the day, with
Michael Clifford taking both. Clifford recorded one save.
