LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All eight of the SCAC men's soccer teams were in action this week, putting together an overall record of 8-5-1.
Colorado College improved to 3-1 with two wins this weekend, while Dallas continues to lead the conference with an unbeaten record of 4-0, including two wins on the road this weekend.
No. 8 Trinity fell to UT-Dallas, but earned a win over Hardin-Simmons in overtime.
Austin College
The 'Roos faced three tough opponents this week, falling to a record of 0-3-1. The team battled LeTourneau University Tuesday, but despite holding a shot advantage through the first half, they couldn't get past the Jackets' goalkeeper and lost 2-0. The 'Roos took on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday, falling behind 3-0 before getting on the board in the 68th minute with Garrett Matacale nothing his first career goal, bringing the 'Roos within two. UMHB scored a few minutes later, making it a 4-1 final score. The 'Roos were looking for their first win of the season against Concordia (Texas) Sunday, and a strong defensive effort kept their opponent off the board until a penalty kick in the 75th minute. The game ended with a 1-0 Concordia advantage.
Centenary
The Gents moved to 2-0 on the season, their best start since 1996 with a 1-0 win over Howard Payne Saturday. Despite facing 17 shots, goalkeeper Rylan Whan was able to keep the Yellow Jackets out of the net. Despite being outshot 17-7, Kellan Klaus marked the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute.
Colorado College
The Tigers dominated on the weekend, beginning with a 5-1 defeat of George Fox University at home Friday afternoon. Captains Andrew Worthington and Max Grossenbacher paired up to put the first point on the board, as Worthington found himself in front of an open net less than four minutes into the contest. Stuart Beezley and Hunter Martinez marked the Tigers' two other points in the first half of the match. Seth Newby knocked in a goal in the 59th minute to make it a 4-0 contest as Christian Wulff posted his second assist. Killian Cockran recorded his first career goal in the 85th minute off of an assists from Sam Block to cap the scoring. The Tigers took on Kean University Sunday, winning 1-0 against the Cougars. Brandon Ogilvie marked his first goal of the season, his 10th career game-winner. Goalkeeper Theo Hooker came up big during the final minutes, recording back to back saves from a strong Kean offense. Hooker has now gone 197 minutes and 37 seconds without allowing a goal.
Dallas
The Crusader rsecorded a pair of shutouts on the West Coast this weekend, improving to 4-0 on the season. The team took on Linfield College (Ore.) first, earning goals from Ben Mannings, off of an assist from Matthew Wise and Mikhail Castillo, and Colten Allen with an assist from Joe Wiele. Goalkeepers P.J. Hasson and TIno Gamueda teamed up for five saves in goal. Ben Mannings repeated his offensive effort on Sunday against Pacific University, scoring a goal in the 89th minute to give the Crusaders the 1-0 win. Luke Schwarz recorded the assist. Gamueda and Hasson split time in the goal again, marking seven total saves.
Schreiner
The Mountaineers took home a win in their first road match, beating LeTourneau University 2-1. Ryan Hernandez marked the first points, scoring within the first five minutes of the game off of a pass from Chase Smith. The Yellow Jackets answered soon after, tying the match up at 1. Gregg Gutierrez scored the game-winning goal five minutes into the second half off of an assist by Zach Howard. Goalkeepers Scot Teitelman and Michel Clifford combined for six saves. The Mountaineers game against East Texas Baptist University set for Saturday, September 6 was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Southwestern
The Pirates fell 3-0 in their home opener against UT-Dallas Friday. The Pirates recorded eight shots compared to 15 for the Comets, with only one on goal. Goalkeeper Travis Carmichael recorded six saves on the day. The Pirates' Saturday evening game against Hardin-Simmons University was declared a no-contest after multiple lightning delays.
Texas Lutheran
The Bulldogs moved to 2-1-1 on the year with a win and a draw on the weekend. The team took on East Texas Baptist Friday night, ending in a 0-0 tie after inclement weather ended the game in the 87th minute. The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 12-5 on the day, recording four shots on goal. The Bulldogs took on LeTourneau Saturday, recording a 1-0 win in overtime. Alejandro Martinez scored in the 100th minute of action to give TLU the win. The Yellow Jackets goal made 16 saves before letting Martinez's sixth shot of the game in. The Bulldog outscored LeTourneau 36-7 on the day, putting 18 shots on goal compared to just one for LeTourneau.
Trinity
The #8 Tigers split the weekend, earning an overtime win against Hardin-Simmons on Friday, but falling to UT-Dallas Saturday. Roberto Camargo scored the winning goal against Hardin-Simmons in the sixth minute of overtime after the regulation period ended with a tie of 1-1. Victor Araujo marked the first point of the match in the 21st minute of play. Hardin-Simmons evened things up in the second half with a goal of their own. On Saturday, the Comets of UT-Dallas upset the Tigers, winning the match 2-1. Johnny Lawson scored Trinity's only goal with an unassisted shot in the 18th minute of play. Goalkeeper Matt Cardone recorded two saves in the game,
