Texas Lutheran Moves Up to 18th in AFCA Poll; Inch Closer to D3football.com Top 25

WACO, Texas –  The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (5-0) moved up to No. 18 in the nation in the latest American Football Coaches Association Poll on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs also sit two spots out of the D3football.com with 44 receiving votes. Complete Poll

Texas Lutheran is 5-0 overall after a 54-27 win Saturday over Howard Payne University. The Bulldogs' win in Brownwood, Texas was the team's fourth consecutive road win of 2014. The TLU victory was the program's 14th in its last 15 games.
 
The No. 18 position is TLU's highest national ranking in any poll since the team was ranked 16th in the NAIA Division I Football Top 20 on Nov. 7, 1984.
 
In the D3football.com poll, the Bulldogs collected 44 voting points - the program's highest total ever received in the poll. The spot in the receiving votes portion of the poll, 27th if the poll extended past 25, is TLU's second-highest ever.

In the win over Howard Payne, sophomore running back Marquis Barrolle rushed for a school record 288 yards on 23 carries. The rushing total ranks fifth in SCAC history in a single game. Barrolle is currently second in the nation with 905 rushing yards and fourth in the nation with 10 touchdowns.

After ending their four game road trip with a victory and completing the roadtrip with a 4-0 record, the Bulldogs will finally return home as they welcome in East Texas Baptist at 6 p.m. for Homecoming. It will mark TLU's first home game since they opened Bulldog Stadium with a 61-15 thrashing of Sul Ross State on September 6th.
