Women's Soccer Recap (Week 10) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer teams wrapped up the regular season this week with the final conference matches and one non-conference game.

 

Non-Conference Games

Austin College 2, UT-Tyler 3
The Austin College ‘Roos played one non-conference game this week, falling to the University of Texas-Tyler Patriots 3-2. UTT grabbed the first goal of the game in the eighth minute, but Myranda Baumgartner marked an equalizer in the 33rd minute off of an assist by Victoria Rutherford. Just before the half, the Patriots regained the lead. UTT struck first in the second half, scoring their third goal less than a minute in. Neither team marked any goals until the 89th minute when Anna Claire Cooke cut the lead to one score. UT-Tyler held a 31-6 shot advantage in the game, marking 15 shots on goal, while Austin College only had three on target. AC goalkeeper Laura McGee put up 12 saves in her first full game in the net.

Conference Games

Texas Lutheran 1, Schreiner 0
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers in the two team’s final meeting before the conference tournament. Sioned Kirkpatrick scored the eventual game-winner in the 46th minute off of an assist by Taylor Vatuna to lead the Bulldogs to a victory. TLU held an 18-7 shot advantage over the Mountaineers, putting six shots on target. Schreiner goalkeeper Megan Morant put up five saves on the day. Kirkpatrick led all players with four shots in the game. TLU goalkeepers Erin Rose and Devin Crump split time in the net, but Rose faced both of SU’s on-target shots, marking two saves.

Trinity 6, Southwestern 0
The Trinity Tigers marked their 17th consecutive win of the season with a 6-0 victory over the Southwestern Pirates Friday night. Hannah Kuhl marked the eventual game-winner in the eighth minute off of an assist by Maggie Olvera. Emily Jorgens added a goal in the 28th minute, assisted by Kelsey Falcone, before Jorgens and Olvera teamed up to assist Colleen Markey with the final goal of the half. Julia Camp, Kelsey Falcone and Colleen Markey each added a goal in the second half.

Dallas 1, Austin College 1 (2OT)
The Dallas Crusaders and the Austin College ‘Roos battled it out Saturday, but neither team could put in a game-winner. The ‘Roos took an early lead as Roberto Varela marked the first goal of the game in the 25th minute. In the 33rd minute, however, Matthew Wise converted a penalty kick into a score for the Crusaders to even things out. Despite holding a 24-18 shooting advantage, AC goalkeeper Andrew Celio marked six saves that kept UD out of the net. The Tigers’ defense held the Pirates without a single shot in the game, while putting up 39 of their own. Kylie Hunt and Katherine Rodgers split time in the net, marking 13 total saves, facing 19 shots.

Dallas 1, Austin College 0
The Dallas Crusaders earned a win in their final match of the regular season as they took on Austin College Saturday. The game’s only goal came in the 19th minute as Nicole Johnson assisted Mackenzie Vasile on the score. While UD held a 10-9 shot advantage, Austin College had the upper hand in shots on target, putting up three to Dallas’s two. UD goalkeeper Elena Naccari marked saves on all three shots to earn a shutout.
