Texas Lutheran's Vega Falls in Round of 16 at NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship

MASON, Ohio – Texas Lutheran University junior Sofia Vega ended her season Thursday afternoon, falling in the round of 16 at the 2015 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Singles Championship.

Fifth-seeded Vega won her first match of the day, defeating Claire Marshall of Depauw University 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the afternoon match.

Later in the day, she faced Juli Raventos of Williams College, the 2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Champions. Raventos plays No. 1 singles for the Ephs and is ranked sixth among all singles players in the Northeast region. Earlier in the day, she defeated Deena Li Kam Wa of Millsaps College.

Vega put up a tough battle, but couldn’t make it past Raventos as she fell 6-3, 6-2.

She closes out her season with a record of 16-2 in the spring season and 27-4 all year. She has also received many accolades, earning the 2015 SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year award, being named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team and All-Conference team as well as earning CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District honors for her work in the class room.
