Women's Track & Field Recap (Week 2) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track and Field teams competed this weekend.

Colorado College traveled to Nevada to compete in the UNLV Cunningham Track Classic. The University of Dallas went east for the Marc Randle Classic in Tyler, Texas and Southwestern University opened their season at the Tarleton Relays.

Colorado College
The Tigers traveled to the Cunningham Track Classic hosted by the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. In a field made up of mostly NCAA Division I opponents, CC had a strong showing. Leah Wessler led CC with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 18:38.43. Rebecca Lavietes was less than six seconds behind in 18:44.37. Katie Sandfort (19:36.27) and Allie Crimmins (19:59.27) also broke the 20-minute mark. Beryl Coulter won her heat in the 800 meters and was eighth overall in 2:29.76. Duranya Freeman crossed the line just .46 after Coulter in a time of 2:30.22. In a battle of first-year runners, Patty Atkinson posted a time of 2:31.39 to edge Kathryn Walsh by 2.68 seconds. In the 100 meters, Samantha Gilbert won the first heat with a clocking of 12.99, which was good for third overall. Asmeda Spalding-Aguirre beat Pepperdine's Jordan Buckwald to the line by 4.83 seconds while winning the first heat of the 400 meters in a time of 1:03.37, which was fifth overall. Erin Morrow finished 11th in the 1,500 meters with a clocking of 5:17.45. That effort was only 5.30 seconds out of eighth of eighth place.

University of Dallas
The Crusaders traveled to Tyler, Texas to compete in the Marc Randle Classic this weekend. Lizzie Depew headlined nine top 10 finished for the team with a school record and personal best in the 100 meter hurdles. She posted a time of 16.19 seconds to claim second place. Sarah Valdovinos finished in fourth place in the same event with a time of 16.50. Colleen Slattery finished fourth in the 800 meter event with a time of 2:33, while Ruth Fritz grabbed the same spot in the 1500 meter race (5:16) and also took ninth in the 5000 meter (20:10). Clare Myers secured fifth and seventh in the 1500 and 5000 meter races with times of 5:18 and 19:28. Depew, Slattery, Katie McIntyre and Amy Sullivan teamed up in the 4x400 meter relay to nab fourth. Michelle DeRoche, Depew, McIntyre and Valdovinos also took fourth in the 4x1000 meter relay.

Southwestern University
The Pirates competed against upper-level competition at the Tarleton Relays. SU had their strongest showing on the track in the 800 as Brianna Timourian took fourth for the women with a time of 2:25.56.  In field events, Maya Adighibe had the highest field finish of any Pirate, snagging 8th in the hammer with a throw of 34.80 meters. Ellie Enis finished in ninth in the event with a toss of 34.08. Anna Hugel had a ninth place finish of her own in the discus with a throw of 26.30 meters. Kimi Prevost took 11th in the shot put (9.31 meters).
