TLU's Barrolle, Wall; Austin's Woodyard Named SCAC Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomores Marquis Barrolle and Michael Wall of Texas Lutheran University as well as sophomore Cooper Woodyard of Austin College were named Players of the Week for their effort in week five of the SCAC Football season.










SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 4th

MARQUIS BARROLLE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-4, 150-pound sophomore running back from Ingleside, Texas, has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 4th. 

Barrolle had yet another huge game for the Bulldogs as he led the team to a 54-27 victory over Howard Payne to move the team to 5-0 on the season for the second straight year.

Barrolle rushed for a school-record 288 yards on 23 carries in the Bulldogs' road win over Howard Payne. His 288 yards ranks fifth all time in a single game in the SCAC. He averaged 12.5 yards per carry. Barrolle broke the single-game rushing mark of 276, set by Richard Miller in 1985. Barrolle scored on a 90-yard TD run, the second-longest run in school history and fifth longest in SCAC history. He also caught two passes for 36 yards.

Barrolle currently ranks second in all of NCAA DIII in rushing yards, with 905 yards. He is the national leader in all-purpose yardage, 219.0 per game, and he is third in rushing TDs, with 10.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior quarterback Noah Jesko of Austin College came out on fire and finished with a strong all around performance, completing 19-of-29 for 245 yards and a touchdown. Jesko set a career best with his 81 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Junior running back Jeremy Simmons of Trinity Simmons came off the bench with 82 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushes in Trinity's 42-17 loss at Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday. Simmons was filling in for injured starter Travis Williams, posting the second-highest rushing total in his career. Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games played Saturday, October 4th

MICHAEL WALL OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a 5-10, 165-pound sophomore defensive back from El Campo, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 4th. 

Wall led the Bulldog defense on Saturday afternoon as they smothered the Howard Payne offense in a 54-27 victory.

Wall recorded a team-high 13 tackles and had 1.5 tackles for loss in the Bulldogs' road win over Howard Payne. Five of his tackles were of the solo variety. Wall made a key open-field tackle on fourth down that stopped an HPU drive in the red zone. He also had a block on the Jordan Sims 95-yard INT return that allowed Sims to make it into the endzone.

For the season, Wall is fourth in the SCAC with 43 tackles on the year including 2.5 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior linebacker Brooks Ward of Austin College had a strong performance for Austin College in a win over Southwestern, making seven tackles including four solo stops, and 1.5 tackles for a loss of six yards. Southwestern and Trinity did not nominate anyone.

SCAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

COOPER WOODYARD OF AUSTIN COLLEGE
, a 6-2, 208-pound sophomore wide receiver/punter from The Woodlands, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for games played Saturday, October 4th. 

Woodyard played a huge role in special teams, helping to pin the Southwestern offense deep in its on territory all day long en route to a 20-13 win over the Pirates.

Woodyard was sensational with an average of 41.1 yards on seven punts and pinned Southwestern inside the 20 twice, with a long punt of 56 yards.

For Woodyard, it was his first time punting in his collegiate career.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive back Cedric Whitaker, Jr. of Texas Lutheran led a strong effort on special teams with a pair of tackles on kickoff return. Whitaker, a senior, had a solo stop and a tackle assist on kickoff coverage as the Bulldogs limited Howard Payne to 15.5 yards per return. Southwestern and Trinity did not nominate anyone.
