Men's Golf Recap (Week 2) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Texas – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s golf teams competed this week in the Schreiner Spring Shootout at Comanche Trace.

No. 6 Schreiner University earned their second win in as many competitions for the spring, while No. 25 Trinity finished four shots behind in second. No. 21 Texas Lutheran posted a fourth place finish in the event.

Schreiner University
The sixth-ranked Mountaineers earned their second win of the spring season as they hosted the Schreiner Spring Shootout in Kerrville, Texas. Jimmy Keener led the team in a tie for second place, posting a 36-hole mark of 140 (-4). Matt McClung followed Keener in fourth place with a 141 (-3) and Cheyne Kendall came in at 146 (+2) to tie for ninth. Rounding out the scorers for Schreiner was Zach Oliver who finished in a tie for 21st place, shooting a 152 (+10) on the day. Ian Davis also competed for the Mountaineers, shooting a 158. Phillip Stewart, Ian Horne and Jacob Gentry all competed as individuals in the competition, finishing in 15th, 41st and 48th place, respectively.

Texas Lutheran University
TLU traveled to Schreiner this week to compete in the Schreiner Spring Shootout. The Bulldogs finished in fourth place overall, while Adam Peterson earned the individual win. Peterson shot a 137 (-9) to take the top spot, including the lowest round of the competition, 65 (-7) through the first day. This is the second win of his career. Kraig Zimmerhanzel tied for sixth in the competition, shooting a 145 (+1). Zimmerhanzel made a five-shot improvement during the second round, after shooting a 75 (+3) on the first day. Stephen Bratz ended the Shootout in a tie for 17th place, firing off a 151 (+7). Taner Zimmerhanzel rounded out the scoring members of the Bulldogs squad in a tie for 37th place, shooting a 162.

Trinity University
The Tigers finished second in the Schreiner Spring Shootout this week. Redmond Lyons led the team in a tie for second place, shooting a 140 (-4). Lyons started the competition with a mark of 69 (-3) and shot a 71 (-1) through the second half. Trevor Warner finished in a tie for sixth place after firing off a 145 (+1), while Diego Trevino tied for 17th after marking a 151 (+7). Warner made the bigget improvement for the Tigers, shooting a 76 (+4) through the first 18, but improving to a 69 (-3) on the second day. Alex Hartzell and Kalen Vos each shot 152 to tie for 21st.
