Women's Tennis Recap (Week 4) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis teams competed this week, while two others couldn't compete due to inclement weather.

Schreiner University posted a 9-0 win over University of the Ozarks, while Trinity University fell 8-1 to St. Mary's.

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers hosted the University of the Ozarks this week, defeating the Eagles 9-0. The rout started early as Schreiner only dropped one set point between all three doubles matches. The top team of Leanna Haynes and Camila Anguiano won 8-1, while the No. 2 team of Karyn Swink and Abby Knedlik and the No. 3 duo of Brooke Ohlman and Alex Wheeler each earned 8-0 wins in their matches. Singles play went in a similar manner, as Wheeler cruised through the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2, Katie Watts won 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 3 Brittney Garza won 6-2, 6-3. Payton Nelson, Samantha Sterling and Ohlman, in the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively, each won 6-0, 6-0.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs took down Howard Payne University 8-1 this week. In doubles action, TLU swept the competition. Sofia Vega and Allison McLain led off in the No. 1 spot, winning 8-2, before Brooke Taylor and Peyton Webster took the second-line 8-5. To finish it out, Caitlin Zarr and Joni Baxley won the No. 3 spot 8-1. In singles play, the Bulldogs swept the top five lines, with HPU earning their only point in the No. 6 match. Vega earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot, McLain took No. 2 6-1, 6-3 and Caitlin Zarr didn't allow a single set point by her opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0. Peyton Webster finished the No. 4 spot 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) and Baxley earned the team's final win, taking the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-3.

Trinity University
The Tigers lose 8-1 in an inter-divisional match against Division II #16 St. Mary's University this week. Cheyenne Duncan prevailed at No. 6 singles 3-6, 6-4, 10-4, with a tiebreaker played instead of a third set. Caroline White put up a good battle at No. 5 singles, but came up just short, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz played No. 1 doubles, Duncan and Blaire Porter were at the No. 2  line, and White and Gabrielle Roe took the court in the No. 3 matchup. Lutz, Southwick, Porter, and Roe lost in straight sets at Nos. 1-4 singles.
