Colorado College's Holtze; Trinity's Cusenbary Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Colorado College outside hitter Abbe Holtze and Trinity University middle blocker Erin Cusenbary have been named SCAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week for week two of the season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 1 – September 7

ABBE HOLTZE OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore outside hitter from Manhattan Beach, Calif. has been named SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 1 through Sunday, September 7.

Holtze helped her the seventh-ranked Tigers win the Colorado College Classic and move to 8-0 on the season.

Holtze led the team with 50 kills (3.85 kills/set) at the net and was second on the team with 38 digs (2.92 digs/set). She hit .274 for the weekend and was also third on the team with nine blocks.

Holtze had a career-high five block assists against East Texas Baptist to go along with a team-high 14 kills. She added 16 kills against St. Mary's and had 11 kils with a .409 hitting percentage against Tufts.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore middle blocker Presleigh Watson of Austin College had a big week for the 'Roos to help Austin College go 4-2 overall, averaging 2.43 kills and 1.3 blocks, and hitting double-digits in kills in four of the team's six matches. Freshman outside hitter Desiree Frey of Centenary led the Ladies with 35 kills as well as 35 digs despite an 0-3 weekend. Senior setter C.J. Broadbent of Dallas had an astounding 180 assists (10.59 assists/set) on the weekend including 41 assists against Wylie and Pomona-Pitzer. Junior right side hitter Abbie Robb of Southwestern had 30 total kills for the Pirates including eight digs and three blocks as to go 2-2-2 in St. Louis. Freshman outside hitter Brette Threadgill of Texas Lutheran led the team with 3.18 kills per set and has racked up double digit kills in seven of her first eight matches. Senior middle blocker Erin Cusenbary of Trinity recorded 40 total kills in the four matches, averaging 2.67 kills/set, and posting a stellar .387 hitting percentage in the processSchreiner did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of September 1 – September 7

ERIN CUSENBARY OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior middle blocker from San Antonio, Texas has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, September 9 through Sunday, September 16.

Cusenbary led the Tigers against some of the top team in the nation, including two team in the top five nationally, as the Tigers finished 1-3 on the weekend.

Cusenbary was a force defensively, totaling 26 blocks on the weekend (1.73 blocks/set) including a 13-block effort in a four set win over Pomona-Pitzer. That tied her for the fifth-most blocks in a four set match and the sixth most blocks overall in SCAC volleyball history.

Cusenbary also added some impressive offensive stats with 40 kills on the weekend to go with a .388 hitting percentage. She had 10 kills and hit .613 against second-ranked Emory.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Rachel Fusselman of Austin College had an outstanding week defensively, helping the 'Roos go 4-2 for the week with an average of 4.65 digs per set and notching more than 20 digs in two of four matches, while also hitting double digits in all six. Junior defensive specialist Sophie Merrifield of Colorado College led the team with 76 digs (5.85 digs/set) and matched a season-high 26 digs and four service aces against 17th-ranked Clarkson. Freshman defensive specialist Haley Cubberly of Centenary led the Ladies with 58 digs despite an 0-3 weekend including 22 against Fontbonne and Lyon. Junior middle blocker Cat Dowgwillo of Dallas had 32 digs on teh weekend including five blocks to led the Crusaders to a 4-1 weekend on the west coast. Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Foster of Southwestern picked up 83 digs on the weekend to lead the Pirates including 26 in a five set win over Webster and 22 in a loss to 11th-ranked Wash U. Junior middle blocker Anna Keeling of Texas Lutheran had 13 blocks on teh weekend including five against LeTourneau and Howard Payne and helped TLU get off to their best start in 18 years (7-1). Schreiner did not nominate anyone.
