Trinity Men's Soccer Moves to Round of 16 With Win Over UT-Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas – No. 2 Trinity University earned redemption for their only loss this season, defeating the University of Texas-Dallas 1-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship tournament.

In their previous match, Trinity got out to an early lead with a goal from Goncalo Santana in the first half, but UTD put up two goals in the second half for the win. Trinity continued a 21-game winning streak with their win over the Comets Sunday.

The Tigers held a 17-10 shot advantage and put seven shots on goal in the match. Freshman defender Kellen Reid marked his third goal of the season, knocking the ball past the goalkeeper in the 23rd minute. This was one of three shots taken by Reid.

The Comets had a chance to tie the match in the second half, putting the ball past Trinity goalkeeper Matt Cardone, but an offsides call negated the score. Cardone finished the day with three saves, posting his 14th shutout of the season.

The Tigers will face seventh-ranked Loras College Saturday, November 22 in the round of 16. The Duhawks are 17-2-2 on the season, finishing conference play with a perfect 7-0 record. The Duhawks fell in the Iowa Conference Tournament to Wartburg College.
