LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior forward Johnny Lawson of Trinity University and senior defender Andrew Worthington of Colorado College were named Players of the Week for their performances in week nine of the SCAC Men's Soccer season.
SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE
WEEK
Games of October 20th – October 26th
JOHNNY LAWSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected as the SCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Players-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 20th through Sunday, October 26th.
Lawson led second-ranked Tigers to a pair of
SCAC victories at home over the weekend, defeating both Austin
College and the University of Dallas.
Lawson tallied three goals in the two games,
increasing his team lead for the season. He nabbed a pair of goals
in each half of Friday's win over Austin, including the
game-winning goal that marked the only score of the first period.
Lawson's goal against Dallas put the Tigers up 2-0
after a little more than 15 minutes of action to pace the team to
the win.
For the season, Lawson has scored 14 total goals
and three game-winners for the Tigers. He is also tied for second
on the team with seven assists, combining for a team-high 35
points.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward
Stuart Beezley of Colorado College scored once and set
up an insurance goal midway through the second half to power
Colorado College to a 2-0 victory over Schreiner on Friday. Freshman midfielder Andres
Carreno-Mendez of Southwestern scored the first goal in
each of the matches this weekend. His was the game winner against
Dallas, and he put the Pirates ahead against Austin College in the
2-1 victory. Austin
College, Centenary, Dallas, Schreiner, and Texas Lutheran did not
nominate anyone.
SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Worthington and the Tiger defense record its ninth and 10th shutout of the season with victories over Schreiner and Texas Lutheran last weekend.
The back-to-back clean sheets marked the third time this season the Tigers did not allow a goal during a two-game weekend. Colorado College’s defense allowed only five goals in 12 home games this season.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalkeeper Andrew Celio of Austin College had a record setting weekend for Austin College, making a SCAC record 22 saves in a loss to Trinity and 34 saves overall in three games. Sophomore defender Curran Daniel of Southwestern returned to action as a sub Friday after three weeks, he helped the team secure two wins over the weekend. His presence on the field is noticeable for the entire team. Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Michael of Texas Lutheran notched his seventh shutout of the season, tying him for the conference lead and added a seven save performance against Colorado College. Senior defender Simon Uribe of Trinity and Trinity's defense gave up just 12 shots in the two victories, as well as contributing the assist on Sunday's game-winning goal against Dallas.
