Men's Soccer Recap (Week 5) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer teams continued conference play this weekend.

Centenary College went 1-0-1 on the weekend, recording two shutouts.

Colorado College extended their win streak to nine as they defeated Austin College and the University of Dallas.

The Trinity Tigers played just one game this weekend, defeating Schreiner 7-0 Friday evening.

 

Centenary 2, Dallas 0
The Gents defeated the Crusaders in the match Friday with goals from Ivann Amaya and Hunter Paul. UD Goalkeeper PJ Hasson faced three shots on target in the game, marking two saves. Centenary goalkeeper Rylan Whan put up 10 saves on the day. The Crusaders outshot the Gents 17-5 in the game, but were not able to get past Whan. UD's Matthew Wise and Colton Allen led the Crusader offense, putting up six and five shots, respectively.

Colorado College 2, Austin College 0
The No. 19 Tigers defeated the 'Roos this weekend, outshooting Austin College 25-4. AC goalkeeper, Andrew Celio, marked eight saves on the day, while Theo Hooker, the CC keeper, only faced one goal, which he was able to save. Brandon Ogilvie of Colorado College marked his conference-leading ninth goal of the season, while Stuart Beezley added the first goal of the game, the eventual game-winner.

Trinity 7, Schreiner 0
The Trinity Tigers marked their fifth win in a row this weekend, defeating Schreiner 7-0 on the road. The TU defense allowed just one shot by the Mountaineers, while putting up 32 shots of their own, 13 on goal. SU goalkeepers Michael Clifford and Blake Lawson split time in the net, putting up six combined saves. Tigers' Johnny Lawson marked the first goal of the game, the game winner, in just the third minute. Brent Mandelkorn marked the next two, with Lawson assisting on the first. Callum Squires got the last goal before halftime for the Tigers. Victor Araujo put up two goals in the second half, while Lawson earned his second assist of the day on the first. Nate Dauphin put in the Tigers final goal just before the end of the match.

Southwestern 2, Texas Lutheran 1 (2OT)
The Pirates won an overtime thriller over the Bulldogs this weekend, improving to 3-1 in conference. TLU's Tim Schaffer scored the first goal of the game in the 55th minute off of a Colin Nunley assist. Austin Robinson of Southwestern put in the equalizer in the 67th minute. The game held at 1-1 through regulation and the first overtime period, before Andrew Carreno-Mende put in the game winner in the 102nd minute. Both teams put up 10 shots, four on goa. TLU goalkeeper Jonathan Michael marked two saves, while SU's keeper Travis Carmichael put up three.

Austin 0, Centenary 0 (2OT)
The 'Roos and the Gents ended their conference match-up in a double-overtime match up on Sunday. AC put up 18 shots, Joey Alcocer leading with five. Centenary wasn't far behind with 14 shots, Jason Aiken marking four of them to lead the Gents. Centenary goalkeeper Whan marked five saves on the day, while Celio of AC faced just two shots on goal, saving both.

Southwestern 1, Schreiner 0
Southwestern's Carreno-Mende marked his second game-winning goal of the weekend in the 70th minute off of an assist from Santiago Salazar to help the Pirates earn their second win of the weekend over Schreiner.  The Pirates outshot the Mountaineers 19-9 on the day, but only put five shots on goal. Carreno-Mende led all players with five shots on the day. Schreiner goalkeeper Blake Lawson marked four saves, while Southwestern keeper had three.

Colorado College 3, Dallas 0
The Tigers finished off their perfect weekend with a win over the Crusaders Sunday. Max Grossenbacher put in two goals, marking the first two-goal performance in his career. Grossenbacher's goals came in the fifth and 22nd minutes. Soren Frykholm marked the Tigers other goal in the eight minute off of an assist from Caden Mackenzie. The Tigers' defense held the Crusaders to just two shots on the day, while the offense put up 22 shots. UD goalkeepers Hasson and Tino Gamueda marked seven total saves on the day.
