SUMTER, S.C. - The Tiger women’s doubles team of sophomore Liza Southwick and first-year Marie Lutz were eliminated from the main draw in the quarterfinals of the UTSA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships on Thursday.

Southwick and Lutz lost a 1-6, 7-6 (9-7), 1-0 (10-2, tiebreaker instead of third set) battle to third seeds Megan Tang and Ariana Iranpour of the University of Chicago.

But the Trinity duo later beat Laila El Dessouki and Carmen Lai of New York University 6-2, 6-3 in the consolation semifinals. Southwick and Lutz will vie for fifth place against No. 4 Katarina Su and Anna Fuhr of Emory University at 3:00 p.m. (ET) Friday.

Southwick and Lutz earned a trip to the National Small College Championships by winning the Regional doubles title last month at the Butch Newman Tennis Center.
