Ryan Gray of Trinity and Aaron Aleman were both outstanding on the mound, limiting both offenses throughout the day; however, Gray would earn his seventh win of the season, pitching 8.1 innings and allowing one earned run while striking out four. Teddy Turner earned his fourth save of the season as he got the final two outs of the game.
Aleman took a tough loss despite an excellent outing, pitching 8.0 innings and allowing two earned runs to go with two strikeouts.
Texas Lutheran opened the game with a run in the first inning. After a single by Justin Law moved Keaton Bohrmann to second, Klaus Bohrmann came to the plate and laced a RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
From that point, it was all Gray and Aleman as they shot their opposition down for the next seven innings. Neither pitcher ran into much trouble, limiting hits throughout the contest.
Trinity made some noise in the eighth inning as the first two batters reached on Aleman's first walk of the day and a hit by pitch. Connor Moore than came to the plate and put a beautiful bunt down the third base line. An error by the TLU second baseman scored pinch runner Liam Rihela and tied the game at one a piece.
Aleman would settle down and finish the inning to keep the score tied until the top half of the ninth, when Wolf stepped to the plate and laced a no doubter over the right field wall for a 2-1 lead.
Carter McEachren added some insurance in the inning with a RBI to left center to score Sam Neely and increase their lead to 3-1.
Texas Lutheran got two runners on in the ninth, but Turner finished it off to advance Trinity into the next round.
Wolf led the offense, going 2-for-4 including the huge go-ahead homerun, while Nick Jewett finished the day 2-for-2 as he started the eighth inning that tied the game with a walk before a pinch runner checked in.
For TLU, Law was 3-for-4 on the day while Kl. Bohrmann was 2-for-4 with a RBi.
Trinity moves on to face No. 1 seed Centenary tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that game will move onto Sunday's championship game at 12 p.m.
Meanwhile, Texas Lutheran will look to rebound from the crushing loss as they move into an elimination game tonight against Southwestern.
