LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All seven of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer teams were in action this week.
Trinity University extends their win streak to 10 games after defeating Southwestern University and Centenary College this week.
The University of Dallas now holds the second spot in the conference after wins over Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University.
Trinity 4, Southwestern 0
The Tigers continued their impressive season with a 4-0
win over Southwestern in Georgetown Wednesday night. Kelsey Falcone
scored the eventual game winner in the fourth minute off of an
assist from Emily Jorgens. Hannah Kuhl marked a goal in teh 39th
minute off of an assist from Julia Camp. Camp then added a goal of
her own in the 43rd minute. Maggie Olvera marked the final
Tigers’ goal in the 62nd minute. The Tigers
allowed just three shots from the Pirates in the game, while
marking 31 of their own. The Pirates had two goalkeepers, Kylie
Hunt and Katherine Rodgers, who teamed up to make 10 saves.
Dallas 2, Schreiner 1
After getting tied up quickly in the game, the Dallas
Crusaders were able to pull out a win after Alice Nelson scored the
game winner in the 77th minute. Nicole Johnson started
off the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute, assisted by
Sydney Stirling. Heidi Workman of Schreiner matched it just two
minutes later off of an assist from Ashley Foster. Dallas
held a 13-9 shot advantage, but only marked one more shot on goal
than SU. Schreiner goalkeeper Megan Morant put up five saves on the
day, while UD’s keeper Elena Naccari matched that with five
of her own.
Texas Lutheran 1, Austin 0
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs were able to earn their third
win of conference play over Austin College this weekend. Sioned
Kirkpatrick scored the game-winner in the 76th minute
for the Bulldogs. Kirkpatrick marked half of the team’s 12
shots, putting two on goal. Austin held an 18-12 shot advantage,
but only marked four shots on target. Both goalkeepers, Franchesca
Lozoya (AC) and Erin Rose (TLU) made four saves on the day.
Trinity 8, Centenary
The Trinity Tigers earned their 10th
consecutive win over the Centenary Ladies this weekend. Seven
different Trinity players marked a goal in the game. The Tigers
held the Ladies without a single shot in the game, while marking 44
of their own – 22 on target. Maggie Olvera had the eventual
game-winner in the third minute of play off of an assist from
Kelsey Falcone and Emily Jorgens. Yasmeen Farra followed it up with
a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Kimberly Polasek.
Falcone marked a goal of her own in the 29th minute
before Julia Camp (’38) and Hannah Kuhl (’44) put in
the last two goals of the half. Meredith Licata earned two assists
in the first half while Colleen Markey added an assist on
Camp’s score. Tierney Thomison put up the first goal of the
second half with Jorgens’s second assist of the day. Allison
Carter put in Trinity’s last two goals, less than two minutes
apart. Olvera and Jorgens assisted, respectively. Centenary
Goalkeepers Lauren Cullen and Erica Coker teamed up to make 14
saves on the day.
Dallas 2, Texas Lutheran 1
The Dallas Crusaders earned their third straight win over
the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs this weekend. Abigale Weisbrod marked
the first goal of the game for UD in the eighth minute. UD’s
Alice Nelson put in the eventual game-winner in the 38th
minute, assisted by Shawnee Pelletier. TLU’s Kelly Lochte was
able to put in a goal in the 78th minute off of an
assist by Kirkpatrick to bring the Bulldogs within one point, but
they were unable to mark another goal. TLU held a 16-14 shot
advantage, putting nine shots on target. The UD pair of Naccari and
Tori Fleharty in goal marked eight saves on the day. TLU
goalkeepers Rose and Crump put up five saves.
Austin 2, Schreiner 1 (2OT)
The Austin College ‘Roos earned their second win of
conference play this weekend in a double-overtime battle against
the Schreiner Mountaineers. AC’s Kyli Scott put in the first
goal of the game just two minutes into play off of a corner-kick by
Mandi Sherwood. Neither team scored for the next 75 minutes until
Schreiner’s Ruth Blackburn put in the equalizer in the
78th minute from 45 yards out. The two teams battled
through the first overtime period scoreless before Tyler Marquez
put in the game-winner in the 103rd minute in the second
overtime period. Austin held a mere 17-16 shot advantage over the
Mountaineers. In goal for Schreiner, Morant put up five saves on
the day. AC’s goalkeeper Lozoya matched Morant with five of
her own.
Southwestern 1, Centenary 0
After both coming off of losses to Trinity, the Pirates
and the Ladies matched up Sunday. Southwestern was able to secure a
win after Mackenzie Millican put in the game-winning goal in the
79th minute off of an assist by Krysta Maples. The
Pirates’ defense held Centenary to just four shots on the
day, none on target, while marking 14 shots of their own. Centenary
goalkeepers Coker and Cullen marked four total saves on the
day.
