LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All seven of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer teams were in action this week.
The Trinity University Tigers played three games, defeating non-conference opponent Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday evening, before marking wins against Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran over the weekend.
After beginning the season 0-7-1, the Southwestern Pirates have won their last three games against conference opponents to improve to 3-7-1 overall, 3-1-0 in the SCAC.
Non-Conference Game:
Trinity 3, Mary Hardin-Baylor 0
Emily Jorgens and Kelsey Falcone helped the Tigers earn a
shutout win over non-conference opponent Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday
evening. Jorgens had goals in the 13th and
20th minute to give the Tigers a lead at halftime.
Falcone assisted on the first goal, and marked a goal of her own in
the 51st minute off of an assist from Jorgens. The
Tigers held UMHB to just two shots on the day, while firing off 35
of their own.
Conference Games:
Dallas 3, Centenary 0
Three different players marked goals for Dallas as they
defeated the Ladies 3-0 Friday night. Alice Nelson scored the first
goal, the eventual game-winner, in the 29th minute.
Kayla Nguyen and Mackenzie Vasile followed suit in the second half
with one goal apiece. The Crusaders outshots the Ladies 21-6,
putting 14 shots on target. Centenary goalkeeper Erica Coker marked
eight saved in her time in goal, while Lauren Cullen added three
more.
Trinity 4, Schreiner 0
The Tigers started the weekend with a 4-0 shutout of
Schreiner University. Kelsey Falcone had a hand on three of the
team’s four goals, assisting on the first two from Emily
Jorgens and Maggie Olvera, while scoring one of her own in the
57th minute. Jordan Leeper marked the Tigers’
final goal in the 82nd minute. The Tigers’ defense
held Schreiner without a shot for the game, while putting up 35 of
their own. Schreiner goalkeeper Megan Morant marked 11 saves on the
day.
Southwestern 1, Texas Lutheran 0
The Pirates defeated the Bulldogs 1-0 Friday night. Ana
Gutierrez of SU marked the only goal of the game, scoring the
game-winner in the 50th minute. The teams remained
fairly even, with TLU marking nine shots and SU putting up seven,
and both putting just two shots on target. Gutierrez’s goal
came on her only shot of the game, while Hayley Miesse led the team
with two shots. Sioned Kirkpatrick, Vanessa Espinoza and Zoe
Gulick each marked two shots on the day for the Bulldogs.
Austin 4, Centenary 0
The ‘Roos marked a shutout as they defeated the
Ladies 4-0 Sunday. Austin College got goals from four different
player in the game. Ashley Rice struck first in the 11th
minute off of an assist from Mandi Sherwood, to put in the
game-winner. Erin Eckart put in the ‘Roos second goal in the
27th minute. The Centenary defense held AC without
another goal until Mandi Sherwood scored in the 84th
minute, followed five minutes later by a goal from Tyler Marquez in
the 89th. Centenary marked six shots on the day, putting
four on goal. AJ Walsh marked two of the shots for the Ladies.
Marquez marked seven of the ‘Roos 19 shots, putting three on
goal.
Trinity 6, Texas Lutheran 0
The Tigers took a 5-0 lead into halftime before scoring on
more goal in the last 40 seconds to defeat the Bulldogs. Amanda Boe
scored the game-winner for Trinity in the fourth minute, while
Falcone added her third goal of the weekend in the fifth minute.
The Tigers got the other four goals from Jordan Leeper, Nicole
Gardini, Hannah Kuhl and Meredith Licata. Jorgens assisted on two
of the goals, while putting up 12 shots, seven on target. The
Tigers outshot the Bulldogs 52-0 in the game, putting 27 shots on
target. TLU goalkeepers Erin Rose and Devin Crump teamed up to mark
21 saves on the day as they split time in the net.
Southwestern 2, Schreiner 1
After a first half without goals, the Pirates and the
Mountaineers battled it out in the last 25 minutes.
Southwestern’s Megan McGrath got the ball rolling with a goal
in the 66th minute off of a corner-kick.
Schreiner’s Ruth Blackburn tied it up four minutes later with
a goal of her own from 18 yards out. The Pirates’ Sarah
Bevins scored the game winner in the 85th minute off of
an assist from Ashley Moulder to win the game. Schreiner’s
Morant marked six saves in the goal, while Southwestern’s
keeper Katherine Rodgers put up two saves.
